Anyone have experience running 25mm tubulars on 21mm rims? I wasn't thinking of going that big but a friend just offered a set.

There's quite a long history of running 33mm tubulars on rims even narrower than that... in CX.

I currently have a set of Veloflex Vlaanderen tubular tires (27mm) mounted on a set of Mavic Reflex rims, which measure about 19-20 mm wide. No issues whatsoever. Probably my favorite road wheelset.

But there are no markings specifying width. Any guesses based on the decade?

I'd bet that's a 19-20mm rim.

More important than rim width is the radius of the tire bed. The tire you are mounting should fit nice and flush to the shape of the rim.

You can definitely mount a 25-28mm tubular on a rim that narrow so long as the fit is good.

You will be ok IME. I have 25s vittoria rally in kinlin tb25 (19mm wide rims) and no issues.

IME you wont have problems putting any tubular in 19mm or 22 mm rims.

No issues with 25mm tires on older rims as the other folks have indicated. Make sure that your glue fully covers the side of the rims as well and note what Eric stated (see Park Tool sketch).

Should I be aware of clearance issues with a early 90s Serotta Colorado LT?

Funny how older info and uses become new forum questions..NOT trying to slam OP BUT..21mm or so(or thinner) tubular rims used to be a 'standard' and everything from 19mm to 32mm tubulars on them was/is no big deal.
I have Vittoria Paves in 27mm onto Mavic MachIICD(19mm width)..no problema.

I have some Veloflex Vlaanderen on a set of escape rims. There is a small bit of
tire bed overlap but have a few thousand mile on them and no prob.
The 25c tire are definitely a better fit for these rims tho and the ride quality is about the same.

Campionato Del Mondo is a good example, they were the quintessential winter training tire.

I've just rebuilt a couple pair of Reflex/Open Pro tubular rims with disc hubs for CX training wheels.

I'll letcha know how they work in the fall unless someone buys em from me first
