Now that I'm settled on the fit, I'm looking for the right . . . look.

I need a stem with the following numbers:

100mm length
-17 angle

that best matches this frame:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49677415602_637faeb70b_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2iFPJVy)

The bottom bracket photo does the best job of catching the color of the frame--it's quite blue in the light, though it is dark enough to seem grey/black at first. Next to the black aluminum components you can see just how much the color and matte finish stand out against the shiny black metal.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Is there something wrong with the stem you have already? That black looks good. Maybe just give the frame and components a good cleaning and some TLC, a polish and a touch up maybe? Or instead maybe a matt black stem but if it were mine I'd be pretty happy with that, if it's the right size.

3t apto, not so black as the Thomson, also more rounded like the frame tube junctions.......rearward facing bolts maybe off putting though?

I think Thomson in -17 would be a good choice but if you are looking for something different this one has contours that match that frame? Its -20 but a small spacer would put the bars at the same spot. I'd likely remove the logos and consider a matching (logo-free) seatpost.

Definitely not any Thomsen.

Uno, a little nail polish remover and be done with it for cheaper and lighter than anyone else is going to recommend.

Fizik Cyrano would look nice. Matte finish. Glossy finish stems don't match imo.

I have Syntace in some of my bikes, I like them a lot, they're light, strong, and come in a matte black that goes with almost everything.

If you're trying to match the frame finish, an Enve stem. Especially since it's a similar shape and obviously same material.

I usually try and blend the stem into the headset, make it look like one piece. So the Thomson you have on there does that.

My opinion of course.

Easy-But maybe a more rounded stem, with smoother junctions? Ya can get any stem painted.

Why is there an inline barrel adjuster on your front brake cable?

parlee makes a nice one, but not 17 degree and for 35mm.

Enve might be your dandy here. Interesting adjustability with supplied shims:

$16 - and acetone off the white 3T logo, or everything... 100x-17

Appreciate the advice here. I had never really thought of matching the stem to the headset, but I can see why that makes sense.

At the same time, that stem in Clean39's post looks like just the thing--thanks for chasing that down!

I got out for a short ride this morning--first in more than a week. Sublime.

Why is there an inline barrel adjuster on your front brake cable?

Honestly, I was asking myself the same question the other day. I had a local shop finish the build, and when I picked it up they had put the barrel adjuster there. I want able to ask the mechanic, and the teenager at the register didn't know.

It's kind of odd, right?

Edit - I was beaten to the question

Can we talk about the in line barrel adjuster on your front brake??? Does that make it feel like mush?

It really doesn't--I've only had time to take it on a few short rides, but I haven't noticed anything unusual about the front braking at all.
