NPR had a piece on yesterday, interviewing the pastor of the Memphis church MLK spoke at the evening before his assasination. It was fascinating and, as always, hearing any part of his "I've been to the mountaintop" speech nearly reduced me to tears.
Several years ago, my family visited the Civil Rights Museum in Montgomery, which has an exhaustive and fascinating display on the Montgomery bus boycott, the action that brought MLK to prominence. When it started he was 26 years old - his brilliance and drive were already staggering. If there is a more inspiring case of speaking truth to power, I haven't heard it.
One of my personal heroes. We don't see many like him.

His messages are timeless.
Listening to NPR this morning and heard snippets of his 1965 Shabbat sermon at Temple Israel of Hollywood.

..."We've ended up with guided missiles and misguided men," Dr. King told the Shabbat worshippers and guests at Temple Israel. ...

I'm struck by how forcefully Dr. King challenged us to live up to the ideals our country was founded upon. His words hold us all to account. I know I often fall short of those ideals, but I will keep trying.

The The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research Institute at Stanford University (http://www.stanford.edu/group/King/index.htm) has a great audio collection of MLK's speeches, sermons & excerpts from his autobiography (http://www.stanford.edu/group/King/mlkpapers/).

Yeap, I am the "anti-hero", but MLK is my hero!
