No skinny lightweights. Just pure brute force. I love it. Some track action to relax to.

Cool.

It wasn't in the linked race, but in one of the others I watched, at least one of the bikes had a freehub. I know little about track, but I thought those guys and gals used fixed gears. What's the story on that?

???? probably what you saw was a road bike??? all the bikes in that video were track bikes, did not notice anything road like but maybe to warm up and warn down? which the guy does.. Not that you cant go with a single speed but I cant even imagine doing any track racing in a single speed.

My mistake - it was a bike that a guy way riding through the infield to go to the start, not the bike he used for the actual race.

I found it - 8:50 here:

A rider wants to get to their race well warmed up and ready to blast off, especially for a time trial. But their track bike needs to go through bike check (weighed, inspected, put in a jig to determine UCI setup compliance) and then gets quarantined between bike check and the race starting. So people often finish their warmups on road bikes.
