When I read this article, I thought of the American tourists killed in Tajikistan in 2018. Anyone who does a cycling tour there is very brave.

Looks to me like eastern Montana's the place to be these days. (But don't get sick, because I bet it's a long haul to get to the nearest hospital.)

And the Gila Wilderness. No Tour this year, that's a good thing.

I've got friends in Las Vegas and with all the casinos and clubs closed down, they're cycling down the strip. Very Omega-Man like.

I've been riding down Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip. Very little auto traffic, almost no pedestrians. Eerie.

Seems like an opportunity to bring the individual pursuit back to the olympics as a safe alternative to pelotons.

Machias ME or anywhere up in the deep north woods. Northeast Kingdom of VT, which has awesome mountain biking looks pretty clean, if you can deal with mud season.

...A trip to VT would need to be self reliant as hotels and tourism infrastructure are shut.

Wow. That's a throwback and a pretty creepy movie for it's time.

Probably!
I can't blame VT for discouraging out of state visitors. VT is worried about overwhelming their more limited medical infrastructure if flatlanders bring more of the virus in. And there were a lot of NJ/NY/CT/MA plates up there a couple weeks ago as skiers holed up for a bit in their ski condos etc. We did the same for a week or so, basically staying on in our rental before closing up early for the season; we won't go back to VT until things get better.

...The same is true for a lot of vacation spots where city folks might have a second home where they could go take refuge for a bit. Nantucket and MV are explicitly telling people to STAY AT HOME (https://www.steamshipauthority.com/) for the same reason. As much as I would like to spend my social distancing in a nicer setting, that would be socially irresponsible.
