Ditto, wish they would add more seasons. They just added the fourth after like a year or so and I breezed through it.

I really enjoyed the first season of Schitt's Creek, but the show didn't seem to be going anywhere in season 2....y'all missing the good stuff though.

Narcos and Narcos:Mexico --- drug cartel drama stuff based on DEA case files and interviews and stuff. Incredible.
Also really enjoyed the 1st two seasons of Mindhunter. Can't wait for more.
Also, Better Call Saul season 4 is on Netflix.

The series that really has me going right now is Ozark with Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and some really great casting, writing, cinematography, etc. Its like Breaking Bad meets Narcos, with a little of Deliverance thrown in.

Really want to watch Peaky Blinders too....maybe after done with season 3 of Ozark. :)

I like The Crown, which gave me a much better appreciation of the royal family’s place in history and government. I actually feel sort of sorry for them, often trapped in positions where you can’t really be yourself.

My current fav is PBS series, Endeavour, which is the prequel to the long running Inspector Morse series. It features Morse as a young man in the 60s -70s

If you like PBS mysteries, I also recommend Grantchester whose main characters are an Anglican priest and cop in the 60-70s.

A good cycling movies was “All for One” which is free with Amazon Prime. It’s a behind the scenes look at the Orica-Edge team - fun and some uplifting stories too.

We had a good deal for a while--we can get NYC library cards even though we are in the 'burbs--and with that came access to Kanopy (and that included access to classic films from Criterion)--I did get to watch some stuff that I haven't seen in years or classics I had never seen.

Then the library decided it was too expensive and stopped the service...

I've been watching Altered Carbon on Netflix--yet another fairly mediocre sci-fi thing filmed in my old home town (one of the sports is trying to identify local landmarks in these productions). Pretty lame--but it is mainly just 'unwind' material..

I really enjoyed Unbelievable (I think Netflix), thought Fleabag was extraordinary as well... And for a network show, I enjoyed "The Good Place"

We've caught up on "Picard" (CBS on Demand) the last few days. It's pretty solid. We're down to the last episode of the first season. Romulans, Borg, Synths and Seven of Nine. Not bad.

I've been a bit burned out on TV for the last couple of years, but will probably catch up on a few shows/movies that I've tuned out or forgotten about. Better Call Saul, Atlanta, and Westworld will be high on the list. Although, a steady stream of comedy might be a better choice. ;)

i highly highly recommend Terrace House. you'll need to turn on subtitles for it. it's a japanese reality show a la big brother but without any sensationalistic casting. the residents are free to come and go as they please and continue living their current lives with only a change of address. the people are real, relatable, and genuine. quite a change of pace from american tv which makes it eminently watchable. i find american tv can get exhausting after a while and need a break. it's like turning down the volume on life.

I'm halfway through season 2 of Ozark, good stuff.

Finished The Ranch - Sam Elliott is great as the patriarch, and Elisha Cuthbert as his daughter in law is unexpectedly good. I wouldn't quite call it a sitcom, maybe an adult comedy series. Wendy Malick is good as an adversary. Dax Shepard is a good surprise too.

My wife has been binge watching Medium. I think that it fits the title - not horrible, but not great either.

If you liked Downton Abbey - on amazon, take a look at Dr. Thorne. I've read several of Anthony Trollope's novels and this was one of my favorites. Stefanie Martini is stunning, and Tom Hollander is good as always.

Not Netflix (and slightly outside the mainstream)--but the National Theatre in the UK is going to broadcasting free versions of its recent performances--one per week (and I think they will stay up for only one day).

First up on Thursday April 2 is 'One Man, Two Guvnors' starring James Corden.

I saw this in a close circuit broadcast eight or nine years ago, and laughed more in one performance than I probably had in the previous decade.

We were able to view it again last night--and it is still the best piece of theatrical farce I have ever seen.

Here's the National Theatre youtube channel (it seems like their are some problems linking from their home page):

I'm kind of with you on this. I had just cancelled it last month after several months of checking in and just feeling uninspired by 95% of what's on there. It all just feels so mass-produced. TV junk food, which is already junk food anyway, right? Unfortunately, I caved mostly due to the virus and being shut in with a family of 4 becoming increasingly bored. But I tell ya, if I lived in a more scenic spot, near a treeline, with a few bird feeders outside some good, large windows, I'd forget about netflix pretty quickly.

watched a newly-released docu about ZZ Top last nite...have a couple of ties to them, so was entertaining to me.

saw them in Indianapolis in the 70s, and got to sit on the stage during the performance (long story).

in the late 80s, had an office mate who had worked for the band as a guitar technician. turns out he was on the same stage in Indy...small world thing.

the film was ok, probably 15 min too long. but, if you like the group's music, worth a watch. you'll at least learn how they came up with their name...

have been a huge Adam Sandler hater forever, but some friends convinced me to watch Uncut Gems with them...some critics had given it good reviews, so thought it might be ok.

absolutely awful. I'd rather have a triple root canal than watch this horrible movie again.

and anyone offended by the F-word will only last thru the opening credits. it probably makes up 70% of the dialogue...

Adding my voice to the chorus - watched “Uncut Gems”with my 20 something son on Friday night, and we both thought it was terrible. I’ve never been an Adam Sandler fan, but it got such good reviews that I thought it was worth trying it. As a teen, my son was a big fan of the Sandler comedy films, but he too felt it was a waste of time.
Sandler plays an even more miserable human being than Larry David does on his HBO show, and that’s saying a lot! It’s well acted, but the character is so grating that it stretches one’s capacity to endure him through the entire 130 min film.

So we could flip this thread a little and list the things that might look good but suck- REALLY suck. Or did that already happen. I'm behind here I guess. Watch the end of the f••••ng world.

I actually started watching The Crown and surprised the sƥt out of my wife and I don't give a hoot about the royals but I am kind of hooked. Witnessing the historic extreme of such a class system is a bit eye opening.

Since Eva Green and Timothy Dalton were mentioned over in the Honor Blackmon / James Bond thread...."Penny Dreadful" is pretty good

Sort of an supernatural / occult mystery thriller set in in Victorian London...vampires, werewolves, witches, and guns.

Victor Frankenstein (along with the monster and "bride of"), Mina Harker, Dracula and Dorian Gray all involved.

As for films to watch instead of focusing on Sandler dislike(he's amazing)...
I discovered YouTube Movies recently. There are loads of free movies, and if you have an adblocker they're truly free!

Some good ones off the top of my head which I really enjoy... though you may disagree:

Ronin- stellar cast, gun fights, and car chases!

Quigley Down Under- good score, excellent cast, and a real good guy protagonist vs real bad guy antagonist.

Cherry 2000- B movie one-liners for days, cool car, lovely leading lady

Lone Wolf McQuade- Chuck Norris at his absolute finest!

Over the Top- Stallone being Stallone while surprisingly not being Stallone...

Into the Blue- Underwater breath holding challenge, and incredibly beautiful people wearing swimsuits!

Navy Seals- Glamorized war carnage and Bill Paxton

4 Minute Mile- A real tear jerker for the runners

Blown Away- explosions and surprisingly bad accents from such an excellent cast

Muscle Shoals- Music Doc. of some of the greatest music ever created

There are still plenty I'm looking forward to watching, and there were some others I had taken note of, but it looks like YouTube must rotate out pretty regularly to the buy/rent option.

Enjoy!

On Netflix, I'm just getting to Ozark...

season one showed promise, some interesting characters and a plotline somewhat similar to Breaking Bad (the 'good guys' are criminals).

but, as season two grinds along, it's becoming harder and harder to accept how many times the Byrde 'organization' avoids consequences of their acts.

also getting tired of how often Marty / Wendy justify the ever-rising body count by saying 'it's to protect the family'...

the writing needs to tighten up or I might ghost on season three.

IMO season 2 was looking for a direction and was sloppy. I think S3 found where to go and was better. Sometimes it seems Marty should shut up and just let Ruth f-bomb her way to the top of the gang.

I haven't had a taste for anything too serious lately. The following two have been playing here:

1) Parks and Recreation - I never tire of this show

2) Longmire - Like a male version of a soap opera... A direct, manly man, that is a sheriff in rural Wyoming and hasn't adopted technology.

Keeping it light around here.

I can see how it would skew toward an older demographic. Most of my Uncles would count themselves as aspirational Walts. It's like an updated John Wayne flick.

Jordan's influence as a producer and what he is choosing to leave in or leave out is pretty interesting. It becomes honest and illuminating in its obvious bias. I'm glad he found basketball, because otherwise he'd be a serial killer.

Curious if anyone here has watched the German series “Dark” this is outstanding TV. I think it being on Netflix has somewhat limited the success since it seem to me that NEtflix does not invest in popularizing as many shows as other networks/content producers. This is not a new release, in fact this series has 3 seasons and out.

Also, if you like animation, Arcane is great.

Finished recently the 3 seasons of Narcos. Have watched some of the Mexico, likely will keep going on this one too. And then Chapo.

Midnight Mass was well done, recommended too, this is dark sci-fy can’t say much more w.o spoilers

Unless one can speak German, there will already be a language barrier.

Then there's the fact that even the somewhat peripheral characters are important, and the audience gets introduced to them fast, and it just really never lets up from there.

It's good....we watched it a few months ago.

The dubbing and subtitles are interesting....they don't always "say" the same thing...quirky, but not a problem.

Yeah, pay attention...characters can get confusing as there are often **********************.....

We also just wrapped up "Locke & Key" which is pretty good, although characters do typically stupid "horror movie" type things.

A new season of "Lost in Space" was recently released...I enjoy it...nice reimagining of the TV series.

Looking forward to new season of "The Expanse" although I should probably rewatch last season to remember what is going on....

"Britannia" (Prime Video) was interesting enough....weird music choices....odd ending though, like the writers were told to wrap it up cuz there was not going to be another season.

We recently finished all three seasons. I dont recall any issues with Season 1. I do remember a couple times I guess Season 2 where my suspension of disbelief was strained or broken, if that makes sense. But I guess I was entertained enough to keep watching. The first season was better than the second. The third season does offer up a fresh new plot line and characters.

Excellent.

I liked it too, but sadly it just got cancelled. no season two.

I didn't even realize it was based on an anime series, but I can see folks reacting poorly to it as a remake.

Thats too bad. It was very well done and the sets were great.

Not Netflix but Apple TV: Acapulco. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended!

I’ve started binge watching Seinfeld when it’s just me. It’s a good way to be entertained while staying in a low brain power mode.

HBO Max

Just started "Succession".....pretty good so far...weird, dysfunctional characters

Also started "The Alienist"....pretty well done. Crime drama set in 1895 NYC....Roosevelt is police commissioner, forensics and criminal profiling are in their infancy....interesting stuff.

Read the books first ("The Alienist" and "Angel of Darkness" - Caleb Carr - excellent)

Ozz, you’re in for a treat. I love Succession. S3 just wrapped and it was great. Though S1 is still the best one IMO.

Anyone done 14 Peaks on Netflix? Really enjoyed that. Wild, wild challenge. If anything, I wish the film highlighted how insane climbing an 8000m mountain is, but there’s only so many minutes of the film to really display that when someone’s climbing fourteen of them. Nice for Nepalese climbers to finally get the recognition they deserve in front of a wider audience, too.

Watched 14 peaks last night as others here mentioned really good. Amazing climbers.
I’d recommend “The Alpinist “ also

Only autograph I ever sought out was from Ed Viesturs....the IMAX movie "Everest" was just released and he was signing posters for it in downtown Seattle....

High altitude mountaineering is crazy in so many ways.....

"14 Peaks" is definitely on my list....

Watched Alpinist on the recommendation here, 14 Peaks in the cue.

Just finished Succession S3- finale was great. A cliffhanger but with several key elements of resolution, if that makes sense.
