I'm finishing a basement and will be upgrading the TV/surround sound/stereo. I haven't purchased a new one in 12 years. Right now we have a mitsubishi 37" CRT with a first generation bose lifestyle system, this system will probably remain upstairs.
The new one will most likely be built around a mitsubishi 73" DLP unless I'm convinced otherwise. I would like to stay in the 10-20k range or less including TV/surround/stereo. We watch mostly satellite television an occasional dvd and enjoy the audio components frequently. Should I try and assemble the components myself, buy an all in the box system or consult one of several local audio/visual firms or possibly locate the stuff myself and have it professionally installed. I'm not an electronics wizard by any stretch. Is my budget reasonable for fairly good stuff? Thanks for any input, Malcolm

Your budget sounds reasonable to me. I would visit the local audio/video specialists and find one who is credible. Look for just the right speakers - the rest is fairly straightforward after that. In my opinion - you will not get the best value in a prepackaged system.

In a previous life, I owned a specialty audio retail store - no longer connected in any way.
