Hey there, does anyone know what the import fee's would be for a bike from the US to the Netherlands?

Thanks in advance!

In theory, the import will be assessed duty and value-added tax. The duty will depend a bit upon what type of bike it is but you can generally expect to pay about 10%. The value-added tax (BTW in Dutch) is generally 21%. The BTW to be paid is calculated on the current value of the product imported. Customs is free to determine what the object is worth but will generally accept the declared value indicated by the shipper.

10 years ago, you could ship a bike to the Netherlands and most of Europe and the recipient would normally be able to collect it without paying anything. They then started getting strict with duty and are now beginning to also crack down on the BTW.

Probably not to you, but depends a lot of the value. If a friend just put gift used bike 200 bucks and wait for the best :P

Insurance is based on value so seller / shipper may not want to take risk of low value. Also, avoid FedEx and use USPS of you want to avoid a bill.
