I am looking at two bikes, priced very similarly:

1) 2015 Giant Defy - nice aluminum frame, 11-speed 105 groupset, upgraded Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels

2) 2006 Cannondale SystemSix - older 10-speed groupset, decent wheels (but I have always wanted to try one)

My heart says the Cannondale, but my brain says the Giant. The Giant will fit me better as well (the geometry on the SystemSix is pretty aggressive).

Which one would you go for?

get the bike that fits.
I'd be going for the Giant even if the SystemSix was the same fit. Newer and better specs.

Fit and handling. That´s where the love is.

Which one would you go for?Caad12. Split the difference. More tire clearance than the system six, but basically the same geo and handling.

If you need it now...get the bike that fits. If you can wait...get the one your heart desires with a better fit.

I’m the shoula got the other one type.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using TapatalkI rode a CAAD10 for a while. It was a nice bike, but it didn't leave any lasting impressions and I wasn't sad to let it go. Not sure if CAAD12 is significantly better.

Plus I highly doubt I can find a complete CAAD12 for around $500, which is the price of the two options I am currently entertaining :-)

As has been mentioned..there are only 3 things to consider when buying a bike...
-fit
-fit
-and fit...

2 pair of running shoes..one fits better..which would you buy?

Regarding the fit, I have an older Cannondale Six13 which I keep at my brother's house in LA. It is roughly the same size as the SystemSix I am looking at, and I am OK riding it for up to about two hours at a time. After that, the saddle-to-bar drop starts to manifest itself.

The Giant is way more upright, though I can also go low with it if I wanted to. But I could set it up in a way where I can ride all day on it.

Or if you can, hold out for one that fits and sets your heart aflutter.

Update: I went with my heart :) I am excited to try this out and see how we get along.

2006 Cannondale System Six (56 cm)
Shimano 5700 groupset (FSA crankset)
DT Swiss R1600 wheelset / Conti GP4K SII tires
Chunky Cannondale carbon stem :D

The price was right so I will pass it on if we don't get along.

This makes me wonder--are you able to set your contact points where are you want them on each of the bikes? If I wasn't able to do this this would make me question the "fit" or the "geometry". Once I'm able to put my saddle in my bars where I want them the next consideration becomes the riding feel or "handling".

The Cannondale is going to have more saddle-to-bar drop than I typically ride. However, as I mentioned previously, the Cannondale that I keep at my brother's house in LA has similar geometry to this System Six, and I can ride that for about 2 hours with no major discomfort. Much longer than that and I start to feel it in my neck and shoulders. The handling feels a little different at first but I adjust pretty quickly. So I will probably reserve the System Six for shorter, more "spirited" rides.

I think Cannondales just have that no nonsense 'workhorse' look about them and I've always appreciated the 'somewhat' level top tube look.

Great bikes.

Then again I might be a little bias
