Thinking about doing something different with my new build.
Tried to find some pictures online but not much out there.

Anyone have a picture to share (besides all black)?

10 out of 10 times it works badly. Main reason is color on metal(frame) will never match color on leather/saddle or cork/tape. One will ruin the other.
Contrasting colors between frame and parts is better but still look like kids bike.
Black and white still rule on saddle and tape ime.

White on white is cool until it gets dirty.

Celeste Bianchi's have been known to be quite RAD over the years.

Black on black or dark works well.

Some custom bartape and saddle covering can work very well. :-)
I had mine done at Busyman, he does great work.

More on topic, I like the look on this:

Think you meant LSD. But you may not be thinking straight anyway... ;)

Surprisingly, my wife saw it over my shoulder and said she liked that. Wonders never cease.

That is a Star Trek movie reference. Some get it, some not. ;)

Instead of matching the frame color, try contrasting or matching the decals. I really liked the way the old Renault/Gitane team bikes looked with the yellow tape and saddles.

Yeah, that's what I did/do usually with all my bikes.
Just thought about doing something different for a change.

The Bianchi is a good example and shows how well this can work, but I share Colker's concern about the match not being perfect which will make the whole thing look ugly...

Maybe I check with Busyman whether he can match leather based on some touchup paint I could provide.

Thanks for all the input :)

No. To match everything is a complete rejection of sprezzatura that every paint/tape/saddle combo should have.

That kind of matchy-matchy shows you're trying wayyyy too hard, and no one likes that.

Tape needs to match something on the bike. Be it lettering on frame or saddle or contrasting color but matches bottle cages. And like it better after the tape shows discoloration. A bike is meant to be ridden.

I think the saddle color is largely irrelevant on any but a show bike for display. Comfort beats all and if you have a good serviceable saddle I think it should be used. When you are on the bike, no one will see it especially you the rider. Bar tape is another where comfort should trump looks. When you think about it our bikes are locked up where no one ever sees them 93,2% of the time. A bike should make you smile when you glance at it, when you inspect it and even more when you ride it, Make your own rules!

It can be hard to match everything usually due to different tints in the color. When I had my Richard Sachs, there wasn't any tape or saddles that could match the paint (red wet gloss).

I try not to match everything and go for accents these days to add more color. Logo color (and size) and fork can help dictate a good color scheme.
Here's what I did to try to break up the all black Parlee and titanium/black Seven - colored hubs, accented saddle, tape and stem cap. On the wheels, you can also get colored nipples.

First and foremost, such things are always a matter of personal taste. So here's mine.

Most of the time, I don't think the monochrome thing works. The black, white and celeste bikes pictured above look good, so it can be done. But most of the time, something looks a little . . . off, because the shades don't quite match.

For bar tape, black and white always work. For saddles, black always works, honey or brown always work if it's a Brooks, and white usually works. Anything else, saddle or tape, is a case-by-case thing.

Oh, matchy matchy white ... Best Crux cantilever version IMHO ... always keeping an eye out for one my size to replace my dead Super-X.

similar thinking can be applied to obsessing over color on a vehicle. that said, I chose my Ariones to match my frame paint. especially the white Arione CX with the gold center stripe. Slave to fashion...
