I am not in buying mode but check regularly, mainly on:

240D manual
300SDL
350SD(L)
BMW 1M

Until about 2 years ago it was also fun to watch how the value of my 2 "not so daily" drivers creeped up.
Not so much fun anymore...

Great looking w123. I had a grey market 230e that was wonderful. The estates are special.

I have a neighbor with a Penz that he runs on natural gas. He drives it for his business. I think he is worn out with it. He bought a Benz G wagon troop carrier that he greatly prefers. Penz's are way cool though.

These threads make me nostalgic.

At the time my son was born I owned a '73 911S. Within two months I had sold it and bought a '81 300TD -- performance wise, from the sublime to the ridiculous. But I loved that wagon, even more than the '94 300TE that I subsequently owned. I sold the TD to a young dad, some years later he sent me photos of it spiffed up with new paint, and I'm certain it's still rolling smoothly down the road.

I can relate; after several W123s (200/220D) in Europe, my first daily driver here in the US was a 17 year old W126 300SD with 450K miles on the clock.
While as reliable as the W123, it definitely was a step up overall. Just felt like a more modern car.
Bought a '95 W124 E320 wagon a few years ago but that turned out to be a disappointment compared to the earlier MBs.
A W126 Diesel wagon would have been the ultimate car for me if MB had ever built one.

For some reason the W116 really appeals to me, much more so today than when it was introduced. There's a really nice specimen (450, not sure if it's SE or SEL) in my neighborhood. It would make no sense for me to own but I still would like to.

The Escort Cosworth and Pinzgauer are major nostalgia fests for me. I lived close to the Steyr plant and there were lots of Steyr Haflingers and G-Wagens (made by Steyr-Puch) around.

I look for Toyota Land Cruisers for the most part, but there are plenty of cool rigs that get my attention. In all honesty, the prices on BAT are commonly above market for Land Cruisers, but many times they have very good examples.

generally speaking, the BAT prices across the board are higher than you can find at a variety of different outlets. what you get with BAT, again, generally is a very good description, good photos and good commentary in the ad itself.

those can be hugely beneficial to a buyer who is buying from afar, and worth the upchrage.

G-Wagens (made by Steyr-Puch)

I grew up in Austria, and got used to seeing about as many Puch-branded G-Wagens (always dark green) as M-B. Seeing them blinged out, with chrome everywhere, and big alloy wheels, still feels wrong.

Agreed. Having experts critique every aspect of a vehicle absolutely has value when buying older vehicles.

I find G wagon lost as funny. Having lived near a Canadian Forces Base they were very common and driven by guys earning significantly less and with barely any education as compared to typical owner.

I wish I'd known about BAT when my mom was selling the farm willys jeep and Porsche tractor. Would have done much better on both than the local sales.

Last summer a cycling mate purchased an E63S wagon off the Bring a Trailer site.

I noticed that values of E500 wagons have gone up nicely. Not an AMG but part way there with a V8 and bigger brakes but a much more comfortable ride.

Yes, it's a bit like the blinged out Land Rover Defenders. The Lara Croft edition was especially egregious. It's supposed to have a flock of sheep in the back!

Most of the Defenders I've seen have been covered in mud. There's no better bling than that!

Speaking of Mercedes 123's I bought this one last fall. 1979 300D 85,000 miles, original paint, lived in the original owner's heated shop all its life. To put the retail price in perspective in 1979 a new full-size Cadillac was $11,000.
