Ok, I have narrowed my Norcal Coastal gravel ride down to riding Usal road one day and then doing another ride starting from Mendocino. Looking for about 50-60 miles of jeeps trails, dirt roads, mild single track, and giant redwoods. Anyone can help out?

Have you already investigated the dirt road that goes from Ukiah to the coast?

I’m not sure exactly where it starts/ends but I could try and find out if you’re interested.

Yes. We did Lower Gap road which pops you out on pavement before Mendocino. That road creeps me out.

Houston...where did you Flash and Lionel ride a few years back? If I recall, it was a pretty awesome route.

We went from Reno, NV (the suburbs) to Mendocino, CA. That route was epic. The Ukiah to Mendocino route basically took us on lower gap rd (dirt) to Ukiah Compche Rd which dropped us out at HWY 1 just South of the Big River river Bridge.

Ok I couldnt remember if it was Low Gap rd or another rd that took you to Comptche Ukiah.

Problem with that area is a lot of um... protective land owners..

When is the trip planned? I can see if I can get my girlfriend to ask her friends in Boonville for some directions. Shes out of town for the next week so hopefully its not coming up.

Another thing you can do is try calling "catch a canoe and bicycles too" in mendocino. My boss was a big time motocrosser in the 90s and 2000s and said the owner there knows his stuff when it comes to Mendocino county dirt trails (assuming the same owner).

Sorry I dont have more direct info

Thanks for the strava link though--Ive never actually ridden low gap myself but when I was in Ukiah for my girlfriends residency interview the faculty at the hospital mentioned Low gap being a nice ride.

Ambitious! It is definitely an area of the world where web-based maps are not always accurate and don't account for private property at times, so act accordingly.

There might be beta you can use here:

Of course, it's nearly four years old now...
