I imagine most in our group would not define the materials for a bicycle storage shed as a relatively unimportant detail :)

These are excellent two terms for different sorts of futility that have been common around coders for a good long time now.

I'm a software engineer.. I started hearing this term at work in the last year.

Small companies are good at building stuff.. Big companies are better at bike shedding. They seem to collect and concentrate the power of bike shedders.

I've been active in the Python programming language community for many years. That's where I learned the term.

Bikeshedding ... I expect we'll start to hear that right along with all the other business buzzwords that drive me crazy.

Full disclosure: When I'm in my bike room, I bikeshed a lot.
