All,

Was given a nearly new pair of Shimano RS Eighty Wheels (hub: WH-RS80)

They have a 10 speed cassette on them now.

Does anyone know if this wheel can take an 11 speed? Or is it 10 speed only?

Thanks!

Joel

I think there has been a lot of discussion regarding an 11 speed MTB cassette fitting on a 10spd Freehub. Might want to search the forum]

They are 10 speed wheel, but I have a set that has a modified 6800 series cassette on mine that works great. I believe there are several guys here on paceline that can make the necessary shoulder cut on the cassette.1697992285

In addition to MTB cassettes (which road RDs may not have capacity for), you could fit the HG700 or HG800 11-34 cassettes to that hub. Those cassettes and MTB cassettes have the last cog cantilevered over the edge of the freehub body.

Also, the newest 11 speed shadow type GS Shimano Road offerings do have a 39T capacity if the 34t cog/cassette gets to out of range on a short DR hanger frame etc.

So a RD-R8000-GS and HG800 11-34 cassette play very nice, watch your chain length and capacity is all.

Otherwise you may need to use a Wolfy roadlink.
