View Full Version : Headbadges?

I see older Serotta's with headbadges - all the newer frames are decaled on the headtube? I wonder if I can still get a headbadge on a CDA??

Yes U can just pony up the xtra dough for it . Headbadges come standard on the higher priced models and are available for like 30-40 bucks for the lower priced bikes except a Stock frame whereas you can attach the head badge on yourself. I like the simplicity of the decal myself.

A headbadge says production bike!

Look at the worlds very best built bikes: Herse, Nagasawa, Singer, Sachs, Weigle, 3Rensho, Pogliaghi, Confente, Velo Orange (sorry couldn't help myself ;<).... None of them have head badges.

Well Toeis have head badges, so there is always the exception.

I am sure there are more, they just allude me now.

By the way, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I love the way a nice headbadge looks on a bike. I think its classy and completes it.

Just one mans opinion.

Headbages? A real bike don't need no stinking headbages.

I think they are cool - and it seems to me like a decal would be for those trashy  production bikes. I think I want one on my custom CDA.

Hey Smiley.
What kind of adhesive should I use to stick my headbadge back on? I would use 2 part epoxy but am afraid to bugger the paint.

When my new 2001 Legend Ti was delivered I was really excited. Except for the headtube badge that didn't look like it belonged on my dream bike. The glue that held it on failed and the cheap looking headtube badge started to peel off. So I removed it and put a decal on.
Well now after 5 years the decal looks like crap. So I thought I try sticking the original back on again.
BTW Lots of high end bikes have real nice headtube badges. A real nice ones at that.

I like beautiful headbadges, however, Serrotta's headbadge does not match the quality of the frames there putting them on, but it's better than a decal.

Those are all great bikes you mention, no question about it, but 30 or 40 years from now will they be as desired, or sell for as much, as a Herse or a Nagasawa or a Confente or a Sachs? I doubt it, though only time will tell. The bikes on my list are not just the best built bikes today (I was only kidding about VO) but the best in history ATMO.

Use 3M VHB (Very High Bond) double sided tape, the thinnest of the three thicknesses. It's super expensive if you need to buy a whole roll, so see if you can just bum a couple of inches somewhere. I'd send you some, but I only have the thicker type.

Some badges can be cool, others, no so much. My personal favorite is the Kalavinka.

But I find badges to be too traditional, almost outdated looking on a modern
bike. If there's carbon on it, and low spoke wheels, it looks out of place.

A dab of clear silicone rubber cement, thats what I would use over the clear coat and over the exsisting decal

I love 'em, and my favorites are far from traditional. Just looking at the Peg badge makes me happy. Seven's is really lovely, too.

Serotta's is just OK, but I prefer it to the decal.

And whatever you want to call the thing that e-Richie puts on his headtube, it is way cool.

atmo.

just got into a group pile-up on my Legend Ti, and when I got home I took it by my LBS for a check-up and hadn't even noticed the head tube badge (which I liked very much) is missing.

The guys have another badge which they are going to pop back on.

I think I'll go back to the site of the crash. If I find the other badge maybe I'll stick it on a Trek and sell it on e-bay ;)

(Me? Oh, I'm covered in road rash and have a broken thumb.)

Granted this is a car brand logo, not a bike, but I've always liked the Alfa logo, with the serpent eating the man:

Soory about the pile up man. Glad it's only a thumb with some rash. Take care of yourself.
Glad the bike is okay.

Thanks to Smiley I found the right adhesive to stick the Serotta decal back on my Legend after 5 years.
I rode it yesterday for the 1st time with the decal on. I swear I climbed much better!!! :p
