We keep riding those Tannus at bike shows and they could ride worse to be honest. Getting them on seems like a huge PITA though

Actually a lot of the airless tire work is being done by NASA for use on vehicles that explore the Moon, Mars... other places. Using any gas for a tire in space is not a good idea, most importantly if you get a flat so "airless" tires have been an area of NASA research for years. You would be amazed at some of the ideas. I will add, that the tire companies are super involved, Goodyear, Bridgestone, others, so the fact that they are finally coming to market... good thing.
