Does anyone know, why a Chorus 11-34 cassette is not compatible with my super record 12 speed. Front chainring is 52-36. ( Campagnolo website) states 11-34 only compatible with chorus.

11-32 works with my 11 speed SR long cage RD. Seems like a 34 might be possible.

It's been the same with Shimano, as Ultegra goes to 34t and Dura-Ace only goes to 30t.

Sometimes it's the case that only one cage length is offered for the top gruppo, being that it is ostensibly intended/marketed for super-fit professional riders.

Campy is now offering a Record 12 and SR 12 rear derailleur that will fit a 11x34th Campy cassette. And they offer a larger pulley to make older R12/SR12 rear derailleurs 11x34th compatible.

They are available right now.

It does require a longer cage (72.5mm). It's listed as a spare part now. I assume that the earlier models RDs have the 25mm extension bracket, like the new Chorus 12. That provides additional clearance. It also requires 1/2 inch more chain, so it might require a longer chain.

There's also chance that the older RD might work, but it depends on the frame's hanger dimensions and the chainstay length.

If you can wrap the big/big with a 32 and seem to have additional chain length, it might work.

As has been mentioned, it 'may'..depends on your frame BUT..yup, longer cage, now offered by Campag, new pulleys, etc...Depending on what(any) product website says, a lot of what they say 'won't work', does in the wild.

Side question: why are they stuck on an 11 small cog?
Give me a 13. If all I’m using the 11 for is going downhill, I can coast or lazy pedal.

I think because the 'trend' to compact and sub compact cranks..and some 1by stuff..they still think 'racy-bike' so gotta have something like that 53/12 of yesteryear..I think a 13-34 is a GREAT idea. A 48/13 still a YUGE gear..for that GRoad bike.

13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-26-30-34...or something..straight thru 19 AND get that 16 and 18, which is used most of the time.

My solution was to get the new 48/32 crank, so the 48/11 is close to a 52/12. It's the smallest top gear ratio you can get with 12 speed.

With 12 speed, even starting with a 12 would results in too many 1T shifts. The 11-29 is a straight block up to the 17, and so are the 11-32 and 11-34 cassettes.

The most common complaint I've read is the desire for an 18T by flat land riders. They might get an 11-27 someday, if enough complaints are received.
