I have the chance to participate in a five-day Charity Ride in Wyoming this June. Never having been there, can anybody tell me what it's like to cycle there (roads, scenery, weather, terrain etc..?

Thanks

Malc

Can you give us the towns/neighborhoods you'll be riding through? The terrain of the state alters from flat, to rollers, to peaks.

Not quite sure if it's 'on-road' or 'off-road' line dancing!

I rode through Wyoming during my tour from Missoula to Steamboat. I loved the Yellowstone/Jackson part of the state, but the rest of my ride was pretty grim. Similar scenary of red rock and sage, brutal winds, and not much else.

Outside of the Northwest corner, Wyoming would be pretty low on my list of places to ride.

Do this ride if you can. I rode thru the area that Bradford recommended and it was one of my favorite states on the trip. Just watch for the quick moving thunderstorms! We got caught in a good one. This our group taking refuge in an abandoned shack.

Riding in Wyoming is almost exactly unlike riding in Newark NJ - does that help?

make sure you visit jackson (and the town next door memorably named moose) just so you can see the tetons. the tetons rising above jackson are one of the great visions there is on earth. i just wouldn't try to ride in jackson until you get acclimatized to the altitude. two things are rare in jackson: bargains and oxygen. beauty, however, is plentiful. as are, sadly, multi-million dollar log cabins.

And camp at Jenny Lake if you can, it is one of the best spots you will ever pitch a tent.

If you want to see Moose, take the ferry accross Jenny lake and take the hike that goes through the pass between Tetons. We saw five Moose the last time we were on that trail.

ha ha. I forgot all about that dog. We actually welcomed him in. Not sure where he came from, but he was a good dog.
