Looking at drivetrain options for a new rando that will be coming in a few month.
I am a lifelong campy guy but I am looking at a long cage RD. These seem to be a viable option for 10 speed and bar end or DT shifters. From what I have found they are made by microshift for SUN. Anyone have any experience with these components?

I have also been curious about these. I assume they are Shimano compatible. Is the actuation ratio, and/or the RD geometry the same for Shimano 9 and 10? The Sun XCD seems to cover both options with a single derailleur.

From the little that is out there on these RD they are shimano compatible with both 9 and 10 speed. I have read a few bits that ppl used them for sti,DT and bar ends with great success.
I may have to give it a try as they seem to be the only silver RD in a long cage that I have seen.
I do have a chorus mid cage but I do not think that will go to a 34T cassette. and finding campy 10 bar ends in decent shape is not that easy.

If you are looking for 10 speed road shifter compatibility, would a Shimano Deore XT 9 speed unit be silver enough and do the job?

I am not sure if these will work for 10 speed. I am guessing that they would but I am not up on the compatibility of the Shimano RD.

Why switch if you're a Campy guy? There's wide range cassette options with Potenza 11sp and Chorus 12sp.

I think you'll find that the 772 will work with 10 speed road STI and barcons. I use 105 10 speed STI and a 9 speed XTR RD-M952 and that works perfectly. The 772 is a Shadow and will work. Anything call Dyna-Sys won't, that has the newer pull ratio. And I've found the 9 speed Shimano rear derailleurs to be incredibly durable and easy to set up.

I have SunXCD rear derailleurs on a few bikes shifting across 9 and 10 speed cassettes. The XCD front derailleurs look too narrow to shift a 9 speed chain, but they work just fine. I use Shimano and DiaCompe DT shifters in friction or index mode. I find that the DiaCompe 11 speed shifter sold by Velo Orange does a better job shifting the 10 speed chain than the Shimano or Riv or Suntour versions.

Yes a Shimano 9 speed MTB rear derailleur will index just fine with Shimano 10 speed road shifters. For many years this was the standard solution to lower gears on Shimano STI-equipped road bikes.

Shimano 10 speed MTB is not compatible with Shimano road shifters w/o cable pull adjustment devices like WolfTooth TanPan.

I recently installed one on my rando bike as I was looking to run an 11-32 nine speed cassette. Paired with 9 speed Dura Ace dt shifters. I had a long cage Ultegra 6600 RD on before. Shifting seems flawless. Can't notice any difference between the Shimano and Sun RDs. FWIW, if you're thinking about using a Shimano MTB RD, not all of them have barrel adjusters if you're pairing with DT shifters.

They are indeed, compatible with road 10s shifters, shimano MTB 9s rear ders, 10s MTB rear ders are not....9s MTB rear ders NOT compatible with shimano MTB 10s shifters tho...

If the goal is to use a larger cassette, perhaps a Wolf tooth road link would allow you to use your favorite RD.

If you wish to run a triple, then perhaps a long cage is a must.

Another choice, if you are using friction shifting or Shimano SIS, is one of the excellent Deore RD's of the late 80's and early 90's.

Many of those models tend to have more nicely finished shiny alloy on them and the 7- and 8- speed models (like the M850 shown below) in particular interface well with Shimano 9 and 10 speed indexed road systems. They are often available in excellent condition for $40-50 on eBay.

Definitely, there's a long duration of Shimano MTB RDs that will work. I suggested the M772 because it is Shadow tech so tucks in closer to the spokes.

I did just find a Shimano 6500 9 speed RD NIB in the stash. It looks like it is a mid cage so I am thinking that will work with a 32 cassette with some 10 speed bar ends. And it is all silver as that is what I am looking for color wise.
Yes or no??

I can confirm this 9v shadow rear mech works with Shimano 10 speed road shifters. I’ve use one on my road tourer along with 10v bar end shifters (set to index mode obviously) and also STI’s.

Yes or no??Not sure if it will work without a road link. Those derailleurs were designed for triples, not necessarily wide range mtb cassettes.
