Far from being a "better wheel", but way cool!

Thanks for sharing this.

not Boston Dynamics inspired at all. There is an artist in Europe that makes things like this that are wind powered. That was the first time I saw something like this. I'm not thinking of the right search terms, but his videos are mesmerizing.

whats really creepy is BD's version of the dog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmNaLtC6vkU almost looks like they improved the origin bio-material.

Ah right....jebus crepus.

I thought you were talking bikes not the end of mankind ;-)

That was great. Design for that sake of design makes me smile. There is no point to it other than a creative outlet and a solid basis of physics and kinetics - I love it

I agree with the coolness, inventive factors. No practical use, but engineered and made workable just for the challenge. I am tickled and pleased with myself when I do no more than just put a bike back together, and everything works.

Good thing that he has a spring supported saddle.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should... that thing seems like a solution looking for a problem.

Pretty cool. Reminds me of a Strandbeest.

Right-thats what unterhausen was referring to

Impressive filming and editing and very impressive engineering. That is one extremely creative mind. As far as the comments bemoaning the pointlessness of it, not so. It’s an exercise in problem solving and creativity. Exercise for the mind, just as important as exercise for the body. And such exercises often lead to new unexpected innovations.

Very, very cool. Thanks for the post!

What was the problem being solved by sending 3 people on a long trip to a desolate, airless, small rock that happens to float around the earth?

Did they actually go?

Ahh yes, you’re right.

As far as usefulness goes, comment by another poster, I don’t think it necessarily needs to have one, but if you insist, I bet you could ride a bike with that or similar mechanism up a 20% rocky rutted slope better than a knobby tire wheel.

I had forgotten what they are called, and google wasn't helping me.
Strandbeast are really cool, although I have to admit they are just a little creepy. https://youtu.be/LewVEF2B_pM

When I first saw them, I really wanted to build one. But I have more than a lifetime of unfinished projects as it is. I think putting one on a bike is genius. It's art, although nowadays it seems like the art world is obsessed with things that take no work.

When are people going to realize, "Just because you can... doesn't mean you should."

WtheF, let's just start genetically engineering all babies from now on. Or maybe we should just uncork AI powered robots on the world and let humans become extinct.

...rant over.

I assume you mean Boston Dynamics...

as soon as Boston Dynamics built their first robot they should have destroyed it, the plans for it, and attempted to forget they ever worked on it. I have dabbled in autonomous robots, and I have thought of a couple of designs that I would smash if I ever saw one built.
