I have heard of food deliveries on campus. That thing doesn't look road-worthy.

Can that thing kill you if you get run over by it?

given the absolutely horrendous skills of most human drivers, this doesn't bother me one bit.

I live and cycle in Houston. I’ll keep y’all posted on any sightings / issues / feedback.

agree with Seramount.

Walmart has a LOT to lose by murdering pedestrians, cyclists etc.

Uber Volvo SUV + Human + Safety Software shut off = Dead Pedestrian.
Not even a wrist-slap.

ATMO. YMMV.

an autonomous vehicle isn't going to run you over on purpose, but their safety rate is considerably worse than human drivers.

can't wait to see the youtube videos of ol' jethro "accidentally" bumping into that with his diesel dually.

This is great. Instead of Amazon porch pirates, we can have Walmart Nuro pirates. Everyday is Christmas for thieves.

I read somewhere that 6% of packages are stolen in NY.

Considering problems we are having with 3 Teslas crashing in last few months on autopilot and problems with Volvo ubers I would be on the watch for those things....

Now wait a sec...home delivery is where I open my door and the goods are handed to me or they are at the threshold. I'm going to have to open the door and walk to the curb or the driveway to get the goods with this service? PPffttttt.

The developer claims the vehicles "drive like my grandmother". Slowly and inattentively? Be safe out there.

I'm far more concerned about openly hostile and aggressive drivers than I will be about this.

I had a bad run in the other day with a guy and those situations are far more concerning to me than a brainless machine.

Too much is made of these automated vehicles as a menace. The real menaces on the roads are people texting and driving, drinking and driving and blatant aggression and stupid driving. I'll put driving with overly worn tires in their too, especially in the upper Midwest in winter.

I'd like a reference on safety rates please...

As an aging roadie, I can't wait for autonomous vehicles. If nothing else, they don't stare at their damn phones all the time, nor do they drink and drive or suffer from road rage.

I've got a Ti rod in my right leg from my first bike/car physics experiment. I figure it's only a matter of time before I get run over again.

Knowing Walmart, I’m surprised that thing isn’t overflowing with enough plastic bags to hold every individual item.

I bike around Houston and its neighboring areas. The crazy, aggressive drivers are more worrisome to me than driverless vehicles tbh

Two men died after a Tesla vehicle, which was believed to be operating without anyone in the driver's seat, crashed into a tree on Saturday night north of Houston, authorities said.

“There was no one in the driver’s seat," Sgt. Cinthya Umanzor of the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 said.

The 2019 Tesla Model S was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it failed to negotiate a curve and went off the roadway, crashing to a tree and bursting into flames, local television station KHOU-TV said...

They must have been testing out Tesla's new "Full Self Driving" feature.

Hate to defend Tesla, who I consider to be particularly irresponsible about this subject. Apparently the car only went a few hundred feet, wouldn't have started without someone in the drivers seat, and wouldn't have been in self driving mode on that street. I'm waiting for more info.

My theory is they were trying to find a door that would open so they could get out

As an aging roadie turned trail runner (in part due to increasing safety concerns), I have to say I don't really trust automomous vehicles to "see" me on the road. Oh, and will the Tesla, Volvo, Audi and Kia software all perform equally well?

I don't think so...

Pretty much why I have quit road cycling. I am running now too.

I just don't get the premise of autonomous grocery delivery. Are we so effing lazy that we can't wander the store aisles and select our own produce?

This is sad.

I mean, I get autonomous vehicles. Most people are bad drivers. And they are better off *not* actually driving.

But autonomous groceries? Hard pass. Selling the stock short, if I could find it...

Has there been an update on this in use?

We keep hearing these stories about autonomous vehicles then squat. Except for the occasional Tesla crash or a ride sharing service runs someone over.

I remember when Freightliner introduced the Inspiration something like 6 years ago. Can't find ANY news on it much after the launch.

Can't figure out if this stuff is vaporware or quietly chugging away in the background.

There are people that are housebound for various reasons.
We are currently in a pandemic and a lot of people are vulnerable to this disease.

So yes, there is a place for grocery delivery and some people aren't "lazy" but incapable.

Why yes, 'we' are...the 'average' American IS incredibly lazy, entitled, selfish, putdescriptorhere, etc, etc...

And even with the pandemic..there are MANY home delivery options for those why can't get into a store but geez..use a person, who needs the job..
