Trying to find out whether I could use a set of shimano RS685 shifters I already own with one of the shimano grx derailleurs, RD-RX810 or RD-RX812 for a 1x11 setup with a larger capacity in the back. I already have a set of second hand rs685's from a planned project that never happened, and while I'd probably rather go with a SRAM setup, if I could just use these levers I already have it would be cheaper just to get the grx derailleur.

I've been researching a bit online and seem to be seeing some mention that the grx derailleurs are supposed to work with current shimano 11 speed shifters, though the rs685 aren't exactly current anymore. I found one person on an online forum who said they were gonna try it, but then no update. Anyone here running rs685 shifters with a grx derailleur or seen one working? Or do any of you know if the cable pull on the rs685 is the same as the current ultegra mechanical hydro shifters?

Thanks in advance for any info!

One piece of data, hope this helps. I have two bikes with those shifters and both are using the Ultegra R8000 rear derailleur, and it shifts fine, so I think if the GRX is compatible with the current 11 speed Ultegra it should work with the RS685 shifters.

11 speed shimano road stuff is all interchangeable with regards to pull. You’re good to go

I dont see why not. The non GRX shifters all work with each other mechanical or di2.
