Check number 8. Who knew? (I don't miss my Mafac Racers--but there was a safety factor of the squeal.) How about those nest-of-bees rear hubs?

Flawed study as gas powered leaf blowers didn’t make the list. Then again maybe that’s why leaf blowers didn’t make the list. It’s a conspiracy!

#1 is knife on a bottle? I'm sure it's not pleasant, but knife on a bottle??

I agree, no leaf blower (gas or electric) means this is a flawed list.

Knife on a bottle?

electric drill...?

no. DENTIST drill! and it wouldn't be number ten!

What the hell is ruler on a bottle? When would this even happen? Why? And knife? I say four stroke moto cross bikes, long live the two stroke!!! And that Gilbert Godfrey guy. Top ten for sure. And those stupid cars with the giant mufflers and bolted on spoilers on the trunk lid the kids thought were cool. And rap music. I need to go ride.

I can't decide on the order, but here's an alternate top five.

1. any Mariah Carey holiday song
1. an alarm clock
1. a gas powered leaf blower
1. the phone in the middle of the night
1. any public figure issuing a clearly insincere apology

The sound of squeaky brakes means I'm riding--nothing wrong with that.

Will join in sharing my disgust for two-stroke leaf blowers - the noise and air pollution is inexcusable.....and yet what kind of jerk is going to go yell at the minimum-wage worker wielding it? We need to go upstream somewhere.

I also hate the sound of diesel trucks approaching from the rear...

And fireworks.

Could do without Christmas music too.

"Get the f**k off the road!!!"............I literally had a teenager yell at me yesterday - no words, just rolled a window down and screamed incoherently....

I get this often. It seems to occur more often in affluent areas. Maybe not causation, but definitely a correlation.

10) the squeak of a dry chain
9) the ka-chunk of a missed shift
8) the shhhhh of a badly adjusted cantilever brake
7) the squeal of badly adjusted disc brake
6) the grind of grit caught between a brake and a carbon rim
5) the creak of a misbehaving bottom bracket
4) the click of an aging pedal
3) the boing of a broken spoke
2) the ping of a rock denting a down tube
1) the mysterious noise that comes from who knows where?

No entry for bottom bracket creaking??

No list of the most-hated noises is complete without this :

Brakes squealing behind you, or tires?

Tires squealing behind me bother me more than brakes, but brake squeak is pretty aggro, for sure. ;-)

Chewing with mouth open / talking with food in mouth. Drives me nuts, and I'm hard of hearing.
Any bike noise that shouldn't be there. Thankfully bad ears help in that regard.

electric drill...?

no. DENTIST drill! and it wouldn't be number ten!

I've used a power drill at dental offices, during business hours many times. Always wonder what the patients are thinking.
