Sooo I just always thought that a CK headset that looked like this was just a really old, (used to be) black headset. But then i googled it and apparently there are brown ones! So how do I know what this is. Im leaning toward an old black one..

Maybe that's a faded pewter one?

That would be interesting.

The color makes me think of the really cheap bike components that were poorly anodized black and the sun turned them to a color like this.

So sometimes black ones fade to a brownish tone, but I also believe they made a “root beer” colored headset, not positive but I seem to recall one.

Vote is for faded black. The brown was very easy to tell apart. Pewter is much lighter.

That is my same assessment as well. I have old black CK headsets that are precisely that same color.

That’s gotta be brown to my eye. It’s a little too uniform to be faded black. You’ll know for sure if you knock it out of the frame.

Looks like faded black to me. Have one that looks just like it.
Second guess would be slightly faded pewter.

Pull it apart and look at the under side of the top cap.
