My buddy had these on his bike and he crashed pretty bad a few months ago. I know it is an n of 1 and wasn't at all related to the plugs, but pretty compelling.

They actually work great and hold the tape well- But I get it if you don't like the looks.
I am sure you can just cut the end of the bars so it will accept a standard plug.
You have to do that on your own for the DI2 specific version of the bars.

I believe the plus are built in and that one doesn't have the option of not using them. Double check this to be sure but the last pair I built into a bike were this way.

how sketchy is it to cut a carbon dropbar to use a normal plug? in my head im not so sure its the same as like, cutting a carbon fork steerer or trimming the edges of a carbon flat bar. its not the end of the world if i cant use these simworks plugs but i do think they look better than those rubber baby buggy bumpers.

What gen are your bars? The original ones are not removable. The newer ones come with cutting guidelines in the drops. Obvs ENVE do not recommend cutting out the old style ones. They claim that there is a differential layup in that area. Don’t know if that is true.

these dont seem to come with any cutting guidelines so i guess they arent removable.
