Quick question: I've got a 2016 CAAD10 - - size 56. I normally run 23s, but need something like 28+ for gravel, etc. I was considering Rene Herse Chinook Pass Tires.

Does anyone have experience running 28s on CAAD10s with no clearance/brake issues?

My CAAD10 had clearance for a 26c Gravel King but not a 28 anything.

When I first got it a couple of years ago, I read on Paceline that there were a couple of iterations of the CAAD10, and some would clear a 28. So, as ever, the answer is: it depends.

I had HED Belgium + rims and 700x25c Schwalbe Pro1's setup tubeless on my CAAD10.

Width was 28.1mm mm and fit fine. Brake bridge will be your limiter most likely.

Wellllll that's interesting. Do you have a later model? I think mine was an earlier version. Not sure how to tell what year mine is but I've probably got room for 32's on mine with brakes being a limiting factor

I have a 2015 version. A 54 CM. And with C15 Zonda rims....it would be tight under brake bridge with 28's. With wider rims....(C 17's or similar) maybe more clearance. Might work.

I think it was a 2011? Don't have it anymore.

I wonder if the larger frames have better clearance. This was a 56.

I have a CAAD12 and got greedy, sticking tires that measured 30mm on it. The tires cleared, but on fresh chipseal and light gravel, small rocks would ride the tire to the rear brake bridge and get caught between the brake and the tire. This would slow down the tire. I'd have to stop, spin the wheel backward, and then continue. Eventually, I think I caught a rock in there about a month ago, and it scored the sidewall to destroy the tire. Luckily, I saw this at home rather than blowing out the tire on the road.

I went back to running a tire that measured 28 on the rear -- no problems.

If you're going to go for a larger tire, be careful that you leave enough clearance for debris to get through the rear brake bridge area.

I'll echo @jtbadge's comment: it depends. I've heard of as large as 30mm actual fitting. Mine will not go that large. Mine will fit a true (measured) 28mm width with enough room for me to run them, but no larger. And the wheels better be true and stiff.

So there's at least some variation in the production run. YMMV.

I don’t think the one I had would have fit real 28c tires but people on the internet say some can. Mine was a 2011(?) black and green one.

Mine clears 28s, but not with a ton of room to spare and it depends on both the tire and rim.

As others have stated, the actual height and width measurements and the specific rim will be a greater determining factor than just the arbitrary 28c or 25c printed on the sidewall.

On a 54cm 2014 CAAD10 I could fit either Conti 28mm 4 Seasons or 25mm GP4K's with Easton R90SL rims, which are 19.5mm internal. Pressure was around 100 psi rear, and they had roughly 3mm clearance all around with SRAM Force and Ultegra 6800 brakes. I think the actual tire measurements were something like 28mm wide and 23mm tall for the 4 Seasons and 28mm wide and 24mm tall on the GP4Ks.

Front had more width clearance, but the height clearance was contingent upon the brake used. Force on my fork sat higher than Ultegra, but I've heard Campy sits lower than both.

Of course, YMMV.

I have a CAAD10 and no way will it fit 28's, not even close. 25's are tight. It's the exact same model as AZRiders.... same year, same paint. Size 56. And I have a nice and shiny, bright aluminium silver underside to the rear brake caliper to prove it.

I think as much as anything it depends on the brakes you are using. My bikes barely fits 25mm Vittoria Corsa G+ on Zondas with Record Skeleton brakes.

Just finished a ride on my CAAD 10, and while cleaning it up on the stand....looked it over closely.

While I said above I believe I could get 28's on there on a wider rim, no way would I ride it like that. I currently ride 23's on a C15 Zonda rim, and while there is room enough for 25's on this rim, and 25's on a slightly wider rim, there w/b no room to spare if I broke a spoke or something. Or if something stuck on the tire, etc. So for me...the answer is no....I couldn't ride 28's on this bike. Mine is a 2015 version.
