Another topic that comes up here now and then - cars and Subarus.
I find Subaru Canada can be slow in processing recalls, so FYI.

My used 2013 impreza has been the subject of a recall or two since i've owned it. The local dealer handled them both well and I have no complaints. YMMV

Wow that recall link which I just read sounds terrible!:butt::eek::confused:

I have a 2009 Outback, bought used a year ago. What did I learn?....ok car for what it is but kinda expensive if services aren't kept up to date. The boxer engine design kinda sucks and Subaru has a thing with creating more than a few weaknesses.

So for those that didn't read the link it states you may need your whole engine replaced if there's a faulty oil valve. That's ridiculous. Funny thing is if I could of got my hands on a newer model Crosstrek I would have but since I was on a budget I got what I was willing to spend on. My concern at the time was the timing belt vs. a chain but I dealt with mine a year later, it got replaced due taking the car in the shop for a bad throwout bearing as well as the viscous coupling. Now Subaru is essentially telling me they still make sheet boxes....way to go Subie!

So far so good with my 2014 Impreza - about 120,000 miles and counting...

They also are having valve spring problems on new ones. Some of the supplied replacement valve springs have also broken. My dad has a new Subaru that's in the window of the recall.

PCV valve is external to the engine so would normally not require replacing the engine IIRC but it sounds like the risk is of the valve disintegrating and getting ingested by the engine?

They are super slow with the recalls & such cause they've grown so fast it's out of control. Not enough dealerships, and they must be rushing production/ramping up factories so fast they're more prone to mistakes.

2010 - ~263k
2015 - ~582k
2018 - ~680k

I had a recall this year on my outback.. super PITA, the dealerships were months out in the populated areas. The market moved towards what Subaru has been building for decades in a huge way in the last 10 years.

My warranty is basically up so probably time to stop taking it to the dealer unless absolutely necessary and go with a more convenient independent shop.
