... and a 61-62 top tube, big tire clearance (44s?) and rim brakes?

The the old All City Nature Boy and Riv Quickbeam/Simple One come close, but good luck finding one.

I currently have an '72 Mondia conversion that barely clears 35s, but would like to return it into an Eroica rig. I'm looking to use my Snoqualmie Pass 44s and build up with parts I have on hand so disc is not curently viable. A BMC MonsterX or similar would work, but I'd prefer a proper fixed with no extraneous braze-ons.

Surly steamroller, 61cm ETT iirc, and best of all Fatties Fit Fine!

Have had two of them and highly recommend.

Steamroller gets you 38s without brakes, I think.... or a 650b x 47:

Hmm, how did I miss the Steamroller? Definitely in the ballpark. Brakes are a must, this would be my commuter. 38s with mid reach brakes according to Surly?

Anyone know the clearance of a canti Nature Boy?

I think with brakes the Steamroller is probably limited to a 32-35. All-City Big Block is pretty much the same.

My Nature Boy cleared 43c Bruce Gordons, never tried a 45. Depending on your brakes you may have to deflate to pull the wheels out past the pads.

You have a canti Nature Boy? 44 Snoqualies only measure 42 so I should be good.

If you are ok with cross-ish geometry (as noted by the Nature Boy), the Surly Cross Check has the TT you're looking for.

Black Mountain Cycles MX also has a 61cm TT in their largest size.

My Nature Boy canti fit BG RnR's.

There's also the Cinelli Mash Work if you can find one.

The market for these largely went away or went to discs.

Crust is supposed to have a fixed cyclocross bike coming out soon I think...

Yeah, it was the canti version.

Squid. But their max TT is 58cm.

It's not fancy, but I think the Mercier Kilo WT fits your bill...

The Cinelli Tutto Plus appears to be a good match for my needs, unfortunately doesn't come large enough.

Yes, I clearly missed the window for canti braked framesets.

Yeah, it was the canti version.

Thanks, a 61cm canti Nature Boy appears to be the best fit. Guess I'll keep keeping an eye out.

I have a BMC MX so that is my last resort, but I'd rather keep it geared.

Good match! All these bikes have generic "double butted Cromo" at least this one advertises Reynolds 520. May be worth a look and the price is certainly right for a "don't care about it" commuter.

There's also the Bianchi San Jose and Spot Rallye SS.

I have a bikes direct Mercier Kilo WT that I use as a fixed gear ice bike (with brakes). Rides a lot like my old crosscheck.

That Tutto Plus is cool looking, IMO. My problem with Cinelli fixed/SS framesets is that they are relatively long and low.

I think Cinelli does produce some XXL framesets, though they don't advertise them. You might follow up with Cinelli USA to see if any are available.

just buy whatever bike fits the best and put an eccentric BB in it. the only downside to these is re-adjusting tension when you have to change gears, which you likely won't do very often with a commuter.

I converted my Moots CX bike to a SSCX with a Phil Wood EBB recently and am loving it. searched forever for a bike that fit how I wanted and had rim brakes and rear spacing that would work with my CX wheel quiver. Nature Boy was on the list but I have the opposite problem: finding a small one! anyway, eventually I gave up and just converted a bike I already have and love.

One thing that would bug me is every time I had to change gear ratios. But if you don't, the BIG advantage to an EBB set up is not dealing with fenders and the track ends/dropouts. Ever try getting the rear wheel out to change a flat with the fender on (in pouring rain). Not fun.

Take a look at the Surly Straggler. The 62cm frame has a 625mm ETT, 421mm reach, and 628mm stack. That's bigger than the Steamroller. More tire clearance too, and the funky forward-facing horizontal drop-outs are claimed to be singlespeed-able.

My roommate runs his Steamroller with Nano 40s, no problem.

He's using Paul Racers, but did swap out the fork for a Whisky with canti posts.

The Steamroller is drilled for standard mid reach brakes.

Ah, got it. Definite contradiction.
