View Full Version : 26" rim question

Still riding and loving my Igleheart hardtail with 26" wheels. I am currently running the wheels tubeless even though the rims aren't really designed for tubeless. Don't hold air very well (probably due to schraeder drilling with a grommet!) but I'm sold on tubeless. I'd like to just swap over a tubeless rim and reuse the current spokes. The Mavic rear rim has an ERD of 541mm according to freespoke. The front Velocity Aeorheat has an ERD of 536mm. Can anyone recommend tubeless rims that I can just swap over? How close does the ERD have to be to work?

Thanks!

David

Needs to be w/i 1 or 2mm otherwise the spokes will be too short or too long..

Using a generic front hub and the 2 ERDs...264mm and 262mm..if the spokes are on the shortish side with the 541mm ERD..'may' work out.

Thanks for responding. I was super unclear in my question.

My rear wheel has the Mavic xc717 rim brake rim. My front wheel currently has the Aeroheat rim. Looking to replace them both with new rims that will work. Clearly the same rim won't work for both. Thanks for the 1-2 mm difference info. That can help my googling!

Thanks,

David

Do you need rim brake rims or are you running disc brakes?

I am on the same boat and want to build a pair of tubeless rim brake wheels. I COULD add a disc tab to my frame but i rather not since i am not near to any competent builder. Otoh i will be riding in the desert so v brakes work all the time.
I don´t see many if any rim brake tubeless ready rims.

These are the ones I had on my wife's bike, was surprised to see they still sell them.

Stans makes a bunch of 26" rims in the 541-542 range, just need to decide how much you want to spend. The old Arch is super cheap and would work. DT Swiss has the EX 471 that's close to your front at 537, not a cheap rim though. Good luck with your project!
