First British champ in a new sport banned for cheating. hilarious and sad- cheating culture rules. Just shows how stupid Zwift racing is.

Worst part about that story is British Cycling is even involved or cares in the first place.

He didn't "cheat" during the race at all. It was prior to the race and used to unlock an item.

New gloves? That would push him over the top, for sure.

That is so sad
riding a real bike outside-->bike on a trainer--->not even riding a bike, hooking trainer up to a simulator.

When is the British National Championships for sitting on a couch? It's going to be a tight race!

No, the worst part is BC set up a "championship" complete with a national championship jersey--who wouldn't feel right daft wearing that?--and instead of having everyone use the same virtual bike, let the bike be determined by who paid Zwift the most money by subscribing and using Zwift the longest in order to get the bike with the best in-game characteristics.

Why sugarcoat it? Why not have a one hundred pound registration fee for the championship with the option of paying fifty pounds extra for each ten second advantage you want over everyone who is foolish enough to only pay the base price?

There are many levels of wrong here. It's pretty absurd.

Bunch of haters here. I’ve done a bit of zwift racing and can pretty easily say I was a puddle of goo after. It’s as legit as any racing out there. Sure the power ups aren’t “realistic” but it is Eracing, it adds an extra level of strategy to the race.

People who hate zwift are the same people that think anyone who rides a group newer than 8-speed campy got scammed by the bike industry.

I was an early adopter on Zwift, back when it was in beta and blue man group was the dominant population of Jarvis. I used to get excited to see actual humans. Even then I saw it (or something like it) would revolutionize indoor training. It drove the power meter and trainer market booms.

That said, I am a miscreant and never really delved into the social aspects. I did my workouts and that was it. The few races I did indicated that there were just too many ways to game the system to hold my interest. Even with racer certification and performance tracking, it’s still more of an uneven playing field than a SoCal Masters crit. Sorry, I know where I fit on the food chain after years of getting my teeth kicked in, but the performances I see regularly are “world class”, or rather, otherworldly.

It’s a great platform, but I would rather ride outside in the real world, engaging with my environment. YMMV.

For sure his avatar can't wear the British champion's jersey.

I assume you can only wear the jersey while riding your trainer, so it is a bit silly. No jersey for me on the trainer, I wear a wool base layer. Yes, bib straps on top (the horror).

I can get dropped in the real world for free, no reason to pay to get dropped while riding my trainer. But I thought that gaming your weight was the worst of it, you can gain time through some sort of gimmick? That's fine on a day to day basis, but in a race with prizes it's ridiculous. I would say they need a better platform, but most of this eracing is fueled by support from Zwift, so that's out.

Right -- different frames and wheels give aero/weight advantages. This is kind of like real life riding and racing, actually.

The bike this guy was riding is generally considered the fastest and is only available if you've spent many many hours in game. I've been using Zwift since beta and still don't have it.

Only available to those who pay Zwift a bunch of money over a long period of time...except for those Zwift just gave the bike to in order to get them to participate in the championship. What is to stop Zwift from putting a SuperTron bike in the game and giving it to whoever they like--maybe to Zwift sponsored competitors.

this is all very silly. Shouldn't everyone be on the same bike and trainer connected to the same computer yada yada to have this thing be fair anyways?
