Have an opportunity to buy Specialized road shoes (Boa) online for a good price.

In your opinion, is the fit close to 44.5 in a Sidi?

Close enough.
IMO Sidi 44.5 = Specialized 44 but both manufacturers should have actual (mm) measurements you can do on yourself.

Lovely, thx. And specialized are relatively narrow from what I hear, ya?

It’s been a few years since I’ve owned a pair of Spesh shoes but the ones I had that fit well were 44.5 and my Sidis that fit well are 45.

No. Sidi and Specialized fit are very different. I can't wear Sidi for more than a few minutes and I can wear Specialized all day. They both have narrow heels, but the Specialized forefoot seems to be much wider and roomier than Sidi, even on the S-Works, which is their narrowest fit.

I would offer that the Spesh is much narrower if that is a consideration. Overall the length is the same but I find them a bit narrower

Specialized changes year-to-year.. you'll just have to try them on.

Sidi is very consistent over time, which is one reason if they fit you, people rarely leave.

MY experience as well--my old shoes were S-Works--a little narrow in the heel but wider in the toe box--and fit me perfectly. I thought I could just pick up a pair in the same size off eBay and they are a completely different feel/fit...

newer s-works have wider toe boxes than the older lasts. I wear a 45 Specialized but was 45.5 in Sidi a few years ago (the last time I wore Sidis).

Agree with this. My specialized shoes are a half size smaller than my Sidis.

I agree with what most are saying here. Sidi typically runs a half size smaller than most other shoes. I'm a 43 in most brands, 43.5 Sidi.

My experience is that the sidi toe box is too narrow whereas the specialized wider/taller/boxier toe box works better for me. I'm a 45 in spec and larger than a 45 in sidis (it's been a while, but the 45s were too small).

Another perspective: you could compare size charts. Specialized's official size chart (https://www.specialized.com/medias/2019-size-chart-Shoes-MW-2-.svg?context=bWFzdGVyfHJvb3R8MjAzNzB8aW1hZ2Uvc3ZnK 3htbHxoMmIvaGFhLzkwMDI5OTkyMTgyMDYuc3ZnfGMzOGQ2NGJ kY2M3Y2Y3MTA4ZGNkZWJmOGM0Zjc3ODdhM2Y1YjNkNDk4ZTZlM zljOTZlYTA5MjRhM2I3YzczMTA) says that the last length for the size 44.5 shoes is 28.6cm.

(Note that they have different last types. The Form Fit last on their S-Works should be tighter than the comfort last on the other shoes, even though the length is the same.)

The problem with Sidi is that I can't see an official size chart on their own website. There's a chart (https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sidi-dragon-5-srs-matt-mtb-shoes-2019/rp-prod176738) on Chain Reaction Cycles, and another one (https://mtbonline.bike/sidi/) on a Malaysian site, that says the last length for a 44.5 Sidi should be between 27cm and 27.5cm. That appears to be the same as the chart on Nashbar's site (https://www.nashbar.com/sidi-dominator-7-mtb-shoe-black-14205101420-p/p728123).

About 9 years ago, I was shopping for new shoes. I wound up with a pair of S-Works. The seller thought the Sidi Mega would work for me as well, but he'd have to order those. I know the Specialized last has changed since then, but I believe Specialized was still relatively wide in the toe box at the time. I think most common wisdom is that Specialized is relatively wide in the toe box right now.
