Never tried it, but I don't see how you could keep from getting a puncture in the tube only.

No issue with 23-25 road tubes in my 32 cross tires. Just ‘tested’ again last weekend.

Nope, ans is yes..Take a tube, outside of a tire and blow it up..see how it gets YUGE?? It'll work, might be a little thinner than a 'proper' sized one but for OP, sure, it'll get ya home.

I haven't had to try it yet, but I bring a big (28-32) road tube as an emergency spare for my 29er mtn bike tires.

Thanks all , yea so it was a new rig to me and I was about 20 miles out , so I happened to have a blade on me , so I ended up witteling a couple of levers out of an oak branch ,then running low air pressure for fear of over stretching the tube and easing around corners as not to roll off the rim .
