I took hay to the local auction last Friday and found a row of police confiscated bikes lined up to sell. Mostly Wal-Mart bikes of course, but I snagged this Nishiki Cascade with full 7 speed LX in great shape. Brought it home, put new tires and a couple of cables on it, and gave it a good cleaning. Can't live with the scratches on the seat post, so ordered an new Uno which cost over half what I paid for the bike. What have you found that falls into the bargain category?

I found a 1964 Fender Champ in great condition for $10. Can’t think of any time when I’ve experienced a bike gear find like that!

Not as good, but I got a set of three Campagnolo Record tubular wheels being dropped off while I was at the Goodwill. Old School ('80s), FIR tubular rims...I think I gave them $10.

My plan is to build a set of tube rims so I will ride my vintage bike more without worrying about finding replacement classic tubs...

Oh, and a Mercedes branded Nissan SS thermal cup to replace my bent and battered original--$2--missing the cap, so I used my original.

No luck with bike stuff but saw a pair of binoculars in an old case at a 2nd shop for $12.00. Taking them out discovered they were by Carl Zeiss. Serial number check at home revealed they are from 1910-1912. Still optically perfect.

When I lived in Salt Lake City I there was a place called NPS. It was a huge warehouse out by the airport that had all kinds of stuff. I was able to find a StopTech big brake kit for my WRX there for $50 (no brake lines or mounting hardware, but I worked for COBB Tuning at the time so I had all of that available), as well as a Independent Fabrications Deluxe steel hardtail (Chris King, Shimano XT, Race Face) for $200. Deals were to be had, but you sometimes had to search the endless rows of shelves to find something.
