I heard a pop on my ride today then the drag of the brakes. I thought it was a broken spoke until I couldn't find one. I guess it's a good thing I hadn't made it very far and wasn't going downhill.

Glad you're ok.
How old were those wheels? Never occurred to me to check the hubs before taking off on a ride...

They are a couple of years old but without really heavy mileage. I'd never thought about checking the shell body before a ride either.

OLD Zipp hub. They don't make 'em like that anymore... for a reason!

It's a Zipp hub, but not all that old since it has the "carbon" caps. I'm hoping Zipp will give me a good price on rebuilding the wheel on a non-breaking hub since there don't seem to be all that many choices for 18 hole hubs. :crap:

I think the best "bargain" you could get would be any amount of money back, which you then apply to buy a wheel built on a Shimano/Campy/DT/King et al hub.
Zipp would have to pay me a lot to ride their products after seeing that photo, and others like it.

I may be wrong but I think White Ind makes an 18 hole front hub -
