I’ve always lusted after a Colnago Master and Arabesque, and see that Colorado Cyclist has new Master frames. I’m seeking opinions if they are as nice as the vintage ones, which sell for about $1k less in VGC.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve had both, the build quality on the newer one I had (maybe 2-3 years old) seemed much better than my 15-25 year old Colnagos but that could also just be the shiny paint talkin’.

Hi,

I bought a new Master Light from a Colnago distributor about eight years ago and it is beautiful. The construction is first rate as is the paint and chrome.

My frame is Molteni with blue panels on the down tubes and Colnago in yellow.

There is a picture of it in the 'show us your bikes' thread from last autumn. I have Athena 11 speed on it.

It is a fine bike all around.

ps I searched out a quill stem and a threaded Colnago fork (NOS) as wanted the classic look.

Better paint on the new ones.

I would go for a vintage model that had a threaded fork on it. Threadless, doesn't look right on a steel frame IMHO. YMMV.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been torn between buying a Colnago or repainting a Moots frameset with a 7-Eleven (Merckx-style) as homage to that team.

I plan to use downtube shifters but I’m not sure that I want to go back to quill stems (although I have some new 3TTT Motus stems in my parts stash).

I can’t do both, though.....

The modern one will handle modern gearing so no issues with your 11 or 12 speed cassette, so easier to deal with if you are considering modern groups.

On a side note, Sigma has x-light frames for about 1k USD less that Colorado Cyclist.

I bought a new master x light a few years back. Handled like a Colnago but not as smooth as my C-40 so I sold it.

My friend mvrider has a ~55 eTT arabesque for sale. Do a search as he isn't here much anymore. If it's a possibly lmk and I'll get him in touch with you

Repaint the Moots. Now THAT would be eyecatching.

Me too in favor on the moots in 7-11 colors. Be original in copying the past,

Make sure you get a Master X light. Whether you get a threaded or non threaded fork is up to what sort of look you want for the bike.
