I just bought a four pack for a lot more money, and my eyes bugged out of my head

... then I realized that these aren't the 4 seasons.

Carry on...

That's a very good price for Continental GP tires. But keep in mind that these tires are step below the GP 4000/5000. The GP tire uses a lower thread count casing and a PolyAx breaker (anti-puncture layer), whereas the higher lever Continental tires have higher thread count casings and Vectran breakers. Consequently, they aren't quite as compliant and have a little higher rolling resistance.

On the other hand, aero wheel maker SwissSide has tested their wheels with a variety of different Continental tires, and found that their wheels have lower aero drag with the GP tires than the GP 4000 or the GP TT - and when mounted backward, the GP tire had even less aero drag than when mounted forward:

On pavement tires, the arrow serves only one purpose: It reduces the number of times customers ask, "what direction do I mount the tires?"

traction?

Probably not. There's little data on tire traction at all, let alone how the direction of the tire affects it.

The GP4S also appears to be on sale. This suggests that an update is expected soon. Great tires for winter and shoulder seasons.
