View Full Version : Time equipe cleats
I have four older and classic and comfy bikes all set with old Time pedals. My cleats are getting worn...And, of course, these cleats are almost imposible to find--not unlike unicorn horns!
My talented son has created the correct "step" files to have cleats made via a CNC, and I have found a local company to turn out as many as needed.
Here's the rub---to cut a small quantity of cleats is costly at more than $40 CAN$ per unit at 12 units...
If there are enough older folks like me who really like these old pedals I can place an order for some cleats...I am not interested in any gain from this deal, but I would like to be able to keep riding these pedals...I think it is cheaper to pay for a few cleats than it is to buy 4 sets of good pedals...
Here's the question: Are there any other forumites who would be interested in buying some of these cleats?
Let me know!

I use some of these still. Something that I am extremely interested in is the adapter shim that allows these cleats to be used with 4-hole speedplay-drilled shoes. Any plans to make that plate too?

I have considered that, but haven't checked into it. There are a number of iterations of those plates too, and they vary somewhat as to the shoes that they will fit. I have a pair that work really well with my Sidi shoes, but not so well with others.
So, in short, not unless there's really significant demand.

Here’s the one that I’m talking about
https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=189363
It is specifically for leveling the platform so that any speedplay specific shoe or adapter can be used. The bolt pattern is identical, I can confirm that.

I would think you could have someone locally make a pair of those. They are much easier to make than the cleats.
The cleat CNC software took over 8 hours to complete...

That plate thing is the adapter to so you can use the cleats in a non time pedal, aka 3 holes look shoe that were by then massively adapted by all the shoe manufacturers.
But I do have to agree that those things fit perfect the holes for speedplay cleats tho. Would work awesome for that too.
At bay time to time they show up.

I’m talking about the little black plastic paddle that is shaped like a spade from a deck of cards...
Not the look to time adapter which has a huge pedal to axle distance

I'm in for at least 2 pair -- I've got a couple pair of pedais that are without cleats. Keep us posted. Thanks.
Dan
To make this work we need somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 pairs at the very least. The production costs drop quickly with more pieces.
To date you're the only one asking?!!
Cheers,
Ian
If anyone is interested. I'm waiting for the details.
Watch for updates.

Dilemma: I’ve 2 sets of Time Equipe and two sets of Time Impact pedals, one fairly fresh set of Equipe and two sets of Impact cleats... And 2 pairs of shoes with 4-bolt soles. Mostly ride SPD or platforms now, so... Either I chuck ‘em altogether or I get more cleats?.. (they don’t wear too fast, especially if you can find the all-metal sets...)
But I don't know how much they will be; these will be the front cleats only, aluminum CNC. I'm hoping that they will be around $40 per pair, possibly less.
My son, the designer, found a CNC manufacturer in China, so these will take some time.
This all started because I have one set of cleats left, with 4 bikes with Equipe pedals...I am going to set aside 3 pairs for myself, so I should be able to supply some more to others here. This is the only place that I have posted about these cleats because this forum is my favourite place on the web.
The costs for setting up the CNC and the "Step" files to control the CNC are normally prohibitive, but my son has been amazingly good at creating the files and sourcing a CNC manufacturer. The wait time is the tough part.
Finally, after waiting for what seems like forever, I have a number of cleats available.
I'm not good at posting pics here, but I can send pics via email.
I'm thinking $35 per pair, shipping and 4 mm. screws included, for forumites.
Let me know if you are interested.

I’m wondering if you have SolidWorks/CAD files available for these? I’d like to add to my library in case I ever have to get some 3D printed in the distant future.

Might be nice to make a mold and then cast some bronze cleats...
