I’ve been enjoying my vintage TA cranks with 46/30 rings and wondering how I can adapt my rival 22 cranks for the same? Is this possible? The director mount rings I’m finding are all 1x but I like two rings. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance

hey timto!

you're going down a deep rabbit hole, but check these threads for extensive discussion:

Someone did that on the Volagi Vanguard Facebook Forums. I can't find the post at the moment but they were able to get a 42/28 on the Rival 22.

On another note, Easton EC90 crank and 46/30 gravel rings kit and a BSA 30 bottom bracket. Is that all that is needed (besides a bunch of money) to replace existing 50/34 on a bike?

FSA also has the 46/30 SL-K carbon adventure crank which is similar in price.

I make a spider that specifically deals with this. It allows for a 28-42, 30-44, or 32-46 options. I feel the 30-44 is the best one. I do not offer the 30-46 ring combo since I feel it is asking too much of the front derailleur.

Here is a link to the spider: https://engincycles.bigcartel.com/product/engin-subcompact-spider-sram-compatible

Seem to be in somewhat short supply. Why?

I have an Engin spider from Drew. Its excellent! For sure the cleanest solution out there.

I did find these as well just now to add to the convo. Drew’s spider seems really cool.

No idea how this works or what the replacement rings situation will be...

Interesting, but they don't even have a website? Not seeing how 30t is possible on a 110mm BCD.

Well, a 30 tooth chainring of course won't fit on a 110mm BCD. Looking at the photo on the BikinGreen ebay store, it appears that the chainrings are actually offset to the inside of the standard position on a 110 BCD crank spider. Normally, of course, the big chainring is mounted to the outer face of the spider, and the small chainring is mounted to face of the spider But with this chainring set, it appears that the big chainring mounts over the top of the spider arms (so it is aligned in the middle of where the chainrings normally sit), and the small chainring is then projected toward the frame, some millimeters inboard of the inner face of the spider arms. This will give clearance to mount a smaller than usual inner chainring, but it will also shift the chainline inboard by some distance (perhaps 4 or 5 millimeters). When mounted on a double crank, this would place the chainrings roughly at the same chainlines as the middle and inner chainrings of a triple crank.
