When you get tired of waiting for the peloton to ride by...
Wonder if officials were "impressed".

And apparently not a single rider in the peloton noticed…

Imagine if he came up a bit short. Pelton would have ensured it was his last ride! Ballsy for sure.

You do it for the story, man.
Ranks up there as the stupidest stunt ever.
Just wait for the inevitable copycats & ensuing carnage.

Again, this is not the first time. This has been happening for at least ten years.

Though I don't know the guy who did this and his chops, nor could I do this myself...
...that wasn't that crazy of a gap. 35 feet or so, well built ramp, easy runout. You can find 20 guys that can do this at any lift-served bike park. The only way he lands on the road is if he really cases the run-in or otherwise fails to commit. I say this just to note that the peloton was never in any real danger and we can un-clutch our collective pearls.

watch any of the red bull rampage footage...this gap jump was nothing. as jaybee says...I've seen guys (and some gals) go bigger at Northstar.

Thanks for this. TDF gap jumps is a pretty fun youtube rabbit hole.

put me in the "that was stupid" camp.
taking big risks is cool, taking big risks that can injure lots of other unsuspecting participants is not so cool.

I don't think that was a huge risk...pretty calculated, pretty easily accomplished.
Seems like more of a "for giggles" type of thing than anything else.

I always assumed it was sanctioned by the TDF

that gap jump presented far less danger to the peloton than any of the crazies lining the mountain climbs or the completely ignorant dog owners.
as long as the TdF rides on public roads, expect crazy stuff.

That does not make it right. He's risking the careers of the riders if something does go wrong.
Put me in the stupid and negligent camp.

Just because you can do something does not mean you should. Stupid although I’d watch more cycling if the jumping were a sanctioned part of the race:)

people do all kinds of stupid things to draw attention to themselves.
for the record, I do not sanction it. and agree it's dumb. so what, you gap jumped the peloton. get out of here!
my point is, while it looks spectacular, it's not a big cahones type of jump for those folks with the skills to try it.

I was thinking the guy last year did a backflip, but he didn't. It's definitely a low rent jump for anyone with skills. But I appreciate the fact that the guy in 2003 ate some dirt.
