Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Great to see that fried squirrel is going mainstream, and not just a southern delicacy any more. :)

Has anyone here (besides me) actually eaten squirrel?

We used to hunt squirrel, rabbit, and grouse back in my college days.

Sautéed in the fireplace of a freshman college dorm. Nice change from cafeteria food.

^Yup.

Like almost anything else, if you know how to season it, you can make it taste good.

Show off!

Do we need a thread about how many “unusual” animals you have eaten?

I can add kangaroo, ostrich, and rattlesnake.

I've got whale, musk ox, alligator, and seal.

I'd eat that fried squirrel, though I have never. Rabbit is as close as I get.

Being from a rural area and of Appalachian descent I have. I hope there never comes a time in my life where I have to eat game again.

I've drank snake blood and eaten a scorpion (deep fried)

Seeing Mr. Squirrel brought back bad memories of my high school job working at KFC

raw snapping turtle meat (sashimi style) (after a drink of it's blood mixed with wine), raw sashimi chicken, raw horse (yep again sashimi). Live baby octopus, mountain oysters, deep fried grasshopper. These taste like peanut butter when roasted.

Couldn't that still be a squirrel looking chicken breast? Mm

Seal, sea lion, frog, alligator, black bear, brown bear, meal worms, grubs, fertilized and fermented duck egg (so gross!)...

I think that’s all the weird stuff.

Oh, had a slug in my mouth once, but it was an accident and I didn’t swallow.

I draw the line at mountain oysters/calf fries. I don't care how delicious you tell me it is. I ain't doin' that.

My dad used to tell me that squirrel brains was the best part of eating squirrels. I took him at his word on that too.

Whale, snake. turtle, cat, civet, grubs crickets, balut.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_(food)

Would not eat whale again because they are endangered.

Would not eat cat again because it did not taste great and I like cats as pets.

Coniglio alla Griglia (grilled prosciutto-wrapped Vermont rabbit) ... crazy good at Trattoria Delia in Burlington, VT.

Cheers.

My father used to eat squirrel sandwiches when he was a schoolboy.
He would pop them with a .22 and my grandmother would cook them.
No thanks. Not interested in trying a squirrel sandwich anytime soon.
