A very cool thing came to my attention the other day. The Smithsonian is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing (July 20th) and called it "Apollo 50 (https://airandspace.si.edu/learn/highlighted-topics/apollo/apollo-50)".

As a part of it, the Smithsonian, Adam Savage of former "Mythbusters" fame, and his "Tested" were tasked with a rebuild of the command modules door, this is called "Project Egress (https://airandspace.si.edu/events/project-egress-build)".

They decided to involve the Maker community, especially those present on Youtube, and so we can watch several of them, how they reacted and how they made the parts.
Very cool to watch the different techniques, and also how these very talented people applied the theme to their own filming style. So if you like that kind of thing, enjoy :)

So far, i've seen contributions from the Saunders Machineworks "NY CNC", "Thisoldtony", "Paul's Garage", "Blondihacks", "Fran Blanche", "3d Printing Nerd", "Redbeardedrazor", there may be more.

Here's a link to a youtube playlist:

I was curious how the latch worked, and the one video I watched had it buried about 12 minutes in. That was after 4 minutes of watching him remove the flash from the parts in fast motion. Never quite understood why people did that.

each of these youtube makers have their own style and video editing is an art. Guys like Jimmy Diresta or especially this old tony absolutey have it nailed to keep it interesting, others... not so much :)

Very interesting. Listening to those producers talk about their various contributions, and sharing their processes in such straight-forward ways, was great, and refreshing. No baloney, just like the original program. Thank you for posting.

Jimmy Direstas contribution is out and, as could be expected, a highlight. Eyballing a spaceship part freehand on the bandsaw, outr of brass and wood, and nailing it :D
