Translated by Google:

Incredible what happened yesterday on the track in Ghent for #LorenzoGobbo that fell together with others was pierced by a strip of wood detached from the track. Hospitalized and operated on he will have to stay there for about 15 days. Good healing #amoilciclismo

Yes. Gruesome. He'll be ok but also suffered from a punctured lung. Wonder about the state of play of the track for bits of wood to come up like that...

It's going to take a bit pair of tweezers to pull that splinter out.

I've seen a few other splinter injuries from wooden track surfaces. That takes the cake though.

Wow, that is even more gruesome than the 20 cm splinter that went through Azizulhasni Awang's leg a few years ago during a keirin race.

awang got one in the leg like 5 years ago or so. He never came back from that one. But looks like this dude will do it.

he won an olympic medal in '16 and was the world champion in '17. he also had other world cup and asian games medals in the years since his splinter. i think he came back from it just fine.

Wow..lucky he didn't bleed to death. Looks like someone who wandered on to the javelin field.
