My new Roubaix Di2 is set up with 48-32 Praxis in front and 11-36 Sram cassette in the rear. I'm old, I need this gearing survive. Love the new bike.

But the travel bike now needs to be considered in light of my arthritis thumbs. Do you know if I can duplicate the gearing of the Roubaix via an etap install on my travel bike? Di2 is flawless on the Roubaix, but thought etap might be more practical for retro-fitting the coupled steel Curtlo.

Has anyone "pushed" the specs on 11 speed etap?

Do you have wifli?

A Wifli eTap rear derailleur will go to 32 teeth. You can also use a road link to get it lower. Or change chainrings to reduce the low gear and use a 32 tooth low in the rear.

The mechanical WiFli derailleurs can run an 11-36 without the Roadlink, you’ll probably be fine.

eTap wifli goes to 32. Haven't seen how well it plays with a roadlink.

I've got etap 11 on my Hampsten with a sugino 46x30 crankset and am currently running an 11x34 cassette. I have the wifli rear derailleur.

Shifts very well. I could probably do an 11x36 cassette but haven't tried it.

Very happy with this combination.

From experience, I have a 11-34T cassete in the back of my etap and work works flawlessly, been running it for a while. Have not tried 36T but I assume it would work, better even if you do a wolf tooth as mentioned.

However I would probably go down on the crank, get a 46-30 crank and then do a 11-34 in the back and you will have very similar low end gear, small crank will be lighter too :) and easier to pack :) :) You could get a nice easton crank to do the 46-30, or a white industries or a few more out there right now. I have that gear ratio on my gravel bike, 47-32 and 11-36 in the back so I understand why you like it, its an amazing climbing ratio that is fast enough on the flats.

I bought this bike with etap because it will be my travel bike, its not SS but etap will make things easier when I put it in a bag, etap is fantastic but even more so for traveling and sure di2 is easier than mech but you still have that a few wires to disconnect (although they are not that bad compared to mech since you don't loose tension when removing cables).

I've been running 11-32 with Wifli etap for over a year with zero issues.

And yes, it's damn near impossible to get 11 sp etap new. I had to resort to eBay for a FD recently.

got it running finally with the help of the LBS.

11-36 with wifli in the back and 48-32 Praxis in the front.

Perfect.

I successfully ran etap w regular (non-wifli) SRAM Red Etap rear derailleur with a 11-30 force cassette. I even ran across the SRAM reps at the Tour of CA and they officially told me that they unofficially say it works without problems but they are CY their A's by saying 11-28 is the max. 11-30 was awesome....

so was pleasantly surprised when I could go to 36 with no downside.

What did they say about making etap/11s obsolete?
What did they say about NO 12s mechanical..and rim brake(gee, a 'few' rim brake frames still 'out there')..

Just wondering...:)

Didnt get that far as i felt a slight bit of buyers remorse after having my red etap for only 4 months before AXS got launched..... Although i updated my CRL with Ultegra 11 Mechanical and it shifts faster than the etap red....
