I have a couple rigid platic and SS straws for home use but they don't travel well in a pocket for eating out. My wife came across this straw and the youtube cracked me up. I'll have check old films, looks like something from a Bruce Lee movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP4xUgzNLik

A most excellent video, and a potentially worthwhile product. Thanks for posting.

use the 3rd world bottle technique. You never need a straw.

I realize you are joking, but single use plastic bottles like that one in the video are a part of the problem.

I love the "suck responsibly" at the end of the final straw video.

Edit: Also looks like some Chinese company ripped off final straw much the same way Spurcycle was ripped off by RockBros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t1WuTgkeE8

Truth. They last forever, the water inside is just someone elses tap water, AND it has been found to contain microplastics, which, surprise surprise, are really bad for you.

I always thought the straw issue was something to make people feel good, but really a small thing in comparison to the rest of the problem. Plastic bags seem much worse, because they are almost never recycled and escape into the environment all the time. My state senator just got a law passed that Pennsylvania localities couldn't outlaw plastic bags. And he also become famous for being incredibly rude to a female senator. Yay Pennsyltucky.

My favorite deli, Chompies, just switch to paper straws. The waiter told me they have been well received by the clientele.

O man, i really hate paper straws for some reason. I have never been so nit picky about such a small unimportant detail in my life-- they have overtaken our area.

Plenty of options and replacements for the plastic straw...here is one source: https://www.ecoproducts.com/compostable_straws.html

Local fast food chain (Taco Time NW) has made all their packaging biodegradable....all "to go" order packaging can be composted.

You are correct in all of this. Abandoned fishing nets & equipment is the worst of it, as far as the oceans are concerned, but that's a tough one for you or I to do anything about. We can do something about the little things in our lives, bags, straws, worthless MAAP silicone tags (I digress), and it all adds up. Any reduction in single use plastic is a good thing. We don't need 100 people being perfect with plastic use, we need millions being better about it.

What is it with just drinking out of a glass, no straw? Mess up your lipstick or something?

Any fast food place, from someplace that specialized in burgers (choose your favorite) to coffee, serves lidded drinks that come with a straw. A lot of people buy lunch and need to move their drinks without spilling them either in a cafeteria or car, so a straw is handy.

It's that simple.

IMO, your statement comes across a little narrow. I'm trying not to use the word sexist, but it's pretty much an old white guy comment.

Plastic is becoming part of the lithology (https://earther.gizmodo.com/a-strange-new-blend-of-rock-and-plastic-is-forming-on-a-1835742900) in some coastal areas.
