I would like to try and understand the ease or difficulty of changing a tire on the road that has been taped with EMC. I have been on tubulars for about four years now and really have only had one roadside tire change and that was with a glued tire and it was pretty straightforward.

How are tires changed with tape? Do you carry glue or is there enough adhesive from the tape that you can mount the spare and ride?

Thoughts and real life experiences are greatly appreciated.

I have used the Carogna tape for the past few years, and tufo before that. My experience has been that the tape leaves some adhesive on the rim, so mounting a spare isn’t a big deal. Usually, but not always, the tape comes off of the rim with the flat tire. I have used this to my advantage by making a previously mounted tire my spare, so that if I have to use it out on the road, the spare already has something on it that will help hold it on the rim.

After using tape, I would never go back to glue...
