RANT CHEAP Electrical Tape used to wrap ends of handlebar tape
I bought the typical black electrical tape sold in hardware stores to finish off the ends of the handle bar tape. In a very short time the black glue seeps out resulting in a black gloopy mess. Very hard to clean off. Tried ammonia based cleaners. No luck
today I tried chain oil. Yes it worked. Dried and wiped off the oil and used
Stanley electrical tape in white. No mess in future Comes in red yellow black white etc

Charles this made me laugh at myself a bit. I've had the same issues with cheap electrical tape and finally got it through my skull. I have a few rolls of good 3m tape now JUST for when I'm wrapping bars.

Use silicone finishing tape.
You'll never want to use electrical tape ever again and you shouldn't.
You're welcome.

Fabric bar tape is awesome and comes with the only finishing tape I have ever used out of the box. It’s very thin, stretchy, grabby, stays in place and has the same texture as the bar tape itself. Matches perfectly.
No going back to electric tape.

I've never had a problem with the cheap stuff so long as I didn't stretch the tape. I use 3m for bar, though.

Self-fusing silicone tape works great to finish up a wrap. So much better than plastic electrical tape. To remove it you’ll have to cut it off, but no sticky residue.

and clean off the sticky residue with WD 40. Then a little soap & water, if you must.

The ESI stuff really is pretty great.
And, yeah, cheap electrical tape is frustrating.

The finishing tape is the same stuff they sell at the Depot. For a lot less.

Yeah well, you're an artisan and I am just a dope with a roll of tape.
