FWIW - wrapping a few days in/around Leesburg/Middleburg VA - just some of the most amazing cycling around. Great roads, do-able (for a roadie) gravel, challenging climbs, nice rolling on the flat past horse farms etc. It's my 3d time visiting here and each time I find new/interesting places to ride.

For those of you who get to live and ride around here - I am seriously jealous.

A hidden gem.

 It is kind of a secret. That area has some really great riding. Did you get out to Mt Weather, near Marshall? The Plains is also a good place to start rides from. It's all a bit of a drive for us city folk, but as you see, worth it.

I've done Mt. Weather on a few prior occasions - both times from the north (via Bluemont, I think).

The last time on the return, I took a detour on Carr (sp?) Lane on what I thought would be a short cut. That is where I found out that my Panaracer Gravelking road tires (28c) are actually pretty handy/hardy.

Today I tried my hand at Naked Mountain. Not as long as Mt. Weather, but plenty climb-y.

Again, fabulous riding. You guys have it good.

Just missed you. Some of us BFers were up there last Friday. Check the “where’d you ride thread” for pics!

Edit - sorry I was confused, different website; Bike Forums. Nice riding there though.

There's a route called "The Blue Ridger" that leaves from Marshall that lets you do both in the same ride. It's pretty much a classic in these parts.

Except for getting there and back, or if you live out that way, getting to work and back, I66 being a notorious parking lot at almost every hour of the day (rush hour beginning somewhere around 2:30-3:00 am).

Traffic getting out sucks on weekend days too. Nope. Stay away. Too much hassle.

No, go. Worth it. Better idea is to move farther out of the city. But, yes, I66 is a disaster. So is I95. Heck, traffic here sucks 7 days a week.

I can ride right from my door and have countless miles of mountains and valley's to ride in with hardly any traffic in sight. It's pretty much what's kept me here all these years. I have moved away from Virginia twice and always returned.

Those are beautiful pictures except that nothing shows up. New slogan? "Virginia, Just imagine"

I have only fond memories of VA cycling.
I lived near Charlottesville in North Garden.
Right out the door I could ride in 4 directions.
Low traffic, Blue Ridge 12 miles away.
I liked West Virginia too
My commute to Staunton took me over
Rockfish Gap/Afton to Waynesboro.
Nirvana!
