No. No thanks.
It’s like the worst little parking lot crits: very boring and also hard.

I have read the article, it's well written but let's just go out and state the obvious: This is only for a very selected group of people and yet within this group of people, they look perfectly normal and you wouldn't be able to pick them out from the crowd. It takes grit in every sense of the word.

My first thought was ***, second thought was who has time for this, and third thought is this has to take years off of your life.

To anyone who has finished this, hats off, and you should promptly check your self into some counseling!

The real life version. I met this guy in a Dunkin Donuts while touring in bikepacking in New Mexico in March. 71 years old and running his seventh US coast-to-coast. His daily mileage a little less than the Sri Chinmoy (in the 30's) but he's pushing a baby jogger to carry all his stuff.

Or there is this guy who dressed like Forest Gump

I still think Amanda Coker has got this totally beat. Her record for most miles ridden in a year was set almost entirely on a seven mile, paved trail loop. It's local to me so I ride it both for the loop and as part of longer rides. Four laps of Flatwood Park, yes that's its name is boring. She pounded out about thirty laps a day, every day, for a year.

something i dont think anyone but those that do it can understand, and probably something those who dont shouldnt even try to. totally different motivations in life.

i do understand something about building tenacity.. yesterday i did my longest ride of the year by almost double, with the final 6 miles climbing a nasty steep switchbacked road that brings the hurt even on my typical, shorter rides. my legs were jelly, i was rocking on the saddle, crotch burning and going in and out of numbness, knowing any physical strength training gains had stopped probably 50 miles ago, but the simple thought "i am gonna be so tough after this" kept me fairly happy.

tenacity is the measure of suffer tolerance. the more suffering youve done, the less you perceive suffering on future suck tasks. i dont understand why these ultra runner types do what they do, but ima guess its at least something to do with all this.. dudes and dudettes have suffer tolerance into the upper atmosphere.
