I have one of these without the blue protuberance that I have used on quick release wheels forever.

Today I used my old tool and centered it with a tightened down skewer. It worked but seemed wobbly. Am I tempting fate or ought I a new tool?

Doesn't the lockring obscure the axle hole? That's why thru axle hubs call for this type of lockring.

But, if you were able to tighten it sufficiently and the thru axle fits through fine then. . .

I have the tool you linked and it works fine on 12mm axles. I also have a socket so I can properly torque it down. I do, however prefer a deep bottom bracket tool with a 3/8” drive to service disc lock rings. The cassette tools won’t work on 15mm or 20 mm front hubs.

are we talking for cassette lock rings or disc lock rings? I had to buy a birzman bb wrench for my DT Swiss centerlock lockrings because it's not possible to get enough torque on them with a standard BB socket tool.

new Roubaix has centerlock discs and 12mm thru axles. discs have lockrings with internal teeth. Think the tool I noted above will do the job just fine for both.

Just use the lockrings for thru axles for all your hubs. That's what I do.

Yup and yup

But the T/a specific lock rings pictured above are a lot safer and require another common tool
