I remember in the TdF, ONCE(I think) had yellow jerseys but swapped to black/pink(?) for the TdF(1993) to not be confused with leader..wonder why not at Giro with EF?

Once? Mercatone? Color change was pretty common.

Sponsors are probably more concerned about losing their brand image.

It's a long term ploy, sometime they may have the pink jersey and they'll be able to blend into the team and avoid being noticed as they slip away from the peloton in a stealth attack.

Organizers must be of the opinion the color is not the same as the Maglia Rosa.

This photo makes them look mostly pink. From the side, back, or overhead they are equally pink/blue or mostly blue.

This isn't like that dress, is it? I can't take another flood of "what color is this?" ;)

True, but I'll admit that the difference is not super obvious if you are taking a quick look.

This is fair, especially since Movistar is in pink right now and are also rocking the navy blue bibs and pink helmet.

If I were looking under my shoulder to see who was chasing, at a glance I wouldn't be able to see if it was Joe Dombrowski (who cares) or Carapaz (oh crap!)

I rescind my previous comment, which was based on seeing the EF guys from behind while driving around the front range.

I saw that photo with Carthy and Carapaz and thought the same thing, OP. Surprised Giro folks let them wear that kit. But maybe they have no way to make them change it.

Really? It’s Italia, the DS and owner would get a visit from Guido, who would make them an offer they couldn’t refuse🇮🇹

I think the jersey would look equally good if they replaced the pink with a day glow yellow/green for the Giro.

All the colours were wonderful at stage 10 in Ravenna.

Should be clear, the "they" I was intending above is the EF team. :)

I guess the bikes wouldn't have to match the kits, and if they did, they would kind of look like the old Liquigas bikes.

It's all down to what the race organizer wants. The ASO has always been adamant that no team jersey should clash with the malliot jaune and has requested that teams modify their jersey if there was a conflict. The Giro organizers have been less strident about it.

The Vuelta, curiously now owned by the ASO, doesn't seem to worry that much either. Last year Cofidis, Katusha, BMC, Trek and Bahrain had jerseys with a lot of red on them, providing potential clashes with the red leaders jersey. None were asked to modify their designs. I guess the MJ is iconic and carries more prestige that the ASO wants to protect. The Vuelta has only had a red leaders jersey for a few years now. Previously it was gold for about a decade and was yellow for decades before that.

Still applies at the Tour. Last year, Team LottoNL-Jumbo changed from yellow jerseys with black sleeves to black jerseys with yellow sleeves, only for the Tour.
